personality —————————————

As a very bitter dragon with impressive knowledge in games, Vengeance has opted for cards to appease his pain. The game of cards distracts him from his thoughts and the aching in his heart. He never learned how to deal with bad memories, and he doesn't think he ever will.

Vengeance makes his deals from playing cards. The customer comes for something they'd like, not always money, not always for something solid, and the imperial loves the aching he sees in the eyes of someone desperate. And so he invites them for a round, the prize being whatever they might need; be it something valuable like gold, treasures, antiques, or even a life.

——————————————— history

Vengeance was born to very prolific parents, with dozens of siblings who came before him. As a younger middle child, it was no mystery why Vengeance got little to no attention. His cold-hearted warrior mother and doormat of a father were intent on creating and sending off as many children as possible, populating the world with his mother’s combat-ready bloodline. Vengeance was not close with any of his siblings, who were far too much like his mother to be pleasant dragons or too much like his father to have any more personality than a dead leaf. He himself was not like either of his parents, which was a good thing as far as he was concerned. Instead, he was a charming and brilliant hatchling, who found himself putting his charisma to use weaseling himself out of the countless combat situations he was invariably thrust into. Vengeance despised fighting; not only was he miserably useless at it, he felt ill every time he was made to hurt another creature. He couldn’t look into the eyes of an intelligent being and knowingly cause it harm, even if it was merely for training. So he found himself falling further and further behind his aggressive siblings, and lower in his mother’s eyes. He didn’t let this bother him - or show that it bothered him. Rather, he found great joy in games of cards, particularly those of skill. He engaged siblings and friends alike in games with his enchanted deck, which he had charmed out of a traveling salesman as a young hatchling. He was almost content with his life. And then there was the day when everything changed.

the day everything changed

After that day, Vengeance didn’t return home. He went on the run, with very little besides his beloved deck of cards to his name. Nonetheless, the imperial as ever found a way to survive. The enchanted cards allowed him to make a dishonest living, enough to keep him off the streets. He finally found a meager residence with other outcast dragons, where he used his now darkened and oily charisma to entrance others into gambling with him. If they could beat the master gamesman, they would earn their heart’s desire - and the power of the cards made it so. Of course, only the most skilled or lucky of dragons could best him, so he made quite a tidy profit off those foolish enough to try. But soon, the other dragons grew tired of him and his games, and he was forced to move on once more. He roamed the Shrieking Wilds until he came to another host of fools. Havendish Clan, they called themselves. A pathetic rag-tag collection of dragons as any he’d ever seen, lodged in a ruined village in the swamp. It would have to do. He expected them to fall for his trickery. He did not expect them to welcome him anyway. And he certainly did not expect for the sternest, most powerful dragon in the clan to love him.
