A tiny sneeze rings out from beneath a wooden stool. The other dragons could’ve sworn there was no one there, but instead, Alauran has been sitting there the entire time. Quiet and reserved, this tiny Coatl enjoys taking naps in unsuspecting locations. Since they’re often so silent, their clanmates have immense difficulty locating them most of the time. Their preferred napping locations include inside other dragons’ nests, behind pieces of furniture, inside chests and cupboards, and as a hatchling, on larger dragons’ heads. Their clanmates don’t mind since Alauran is such a well-behaved little Coatl. The only worry is that someday, they might not be able to find them at all! Once, someone suggested putting a bell around the sleepy dragon’s neck. Alauran politely declined the offer, preferring to snooze in peace without a resounding jangling in their ears. When they’re awake, they like to eavesdrop on the conversations that happen all around them. They have an uncanny ability to slip into dark spaces unnoticed. This means they’re able to obtain all sorts of juicy gossip. From secret feuds to confessions of love, if someone needs information about another clanmate, Alauran is the dragon for the job– if one can find them.
Oddly enough, this peaceful Coatl’s partner in crime is Valentine, the living, breathing disaster. They seem to balance each other out quite well, with one bringing chaos and the other bringing tranquility. Valentine often talks Alauran into joining him on ‘heists.’ These missions mostly involve inane pranks that frustrate and confuse their clanmates. Val explains that because Al is so adept at sneaking around, they’re the key to a successful ‘crime.’ Their most ‘dangerous’ endeavor involved sneaking into an older dragon’s lair and stealing her nightcap. Unfortunately, Valentine tripped over a large metal vase. The clanging noise immediately woke the sleeping elder. Alauran successfully hid behind an old statue, but their friend was caught red-handed. Happy to take the fall, Valentine was on lair dishes duty for four weeks. Al helped him anyway. It was only fair, since they had both caused trouble together.
The two of them first became friends when Valentine got Alauran stuck inside a clay pot. He was scuttling around on some shelves when he knocked the item over. It fell right onto Alauran’s head. Worried that the Coatl would be angry, the Aberration braced himself for a scolding. Instead, all he heard was, “Um, excuse me? Could you help me, please?”
This was the first time Alauran had ever spoken to another clanmate. The other dragons were starting to worry that they couldn’t speak at all, until that day. Valentine helped them find their voice, which is one of the reasons they spend all their time together. Alauran barely speaks to anyone, save for Valentine. Their voice is soft and tiny, but they always have kind things to say. They’re the only one who sees Valentine as more than a troublemaker. They see that their friend has a big heart, despite his chaotic nature, and that all he desires is love and affection. Alauran makes sure that they spend lots of time with Val. They care deeply for their friend and want to make sure he feels like someone’s taking care of him. The gentle Coatl will tell them stories, share their hoard, and remind Valentine that they’re going to be okay. Their bond is truly special. It warms their clanmates’ hearts and reminds everyone not to be so tough on Valentine all the time. He’s doing his best, and if Alauran likes him, there must be something worthy in him after all.
Late at night, after all the other dragons have gone to bed, Alauran likes to wander around in the dark. They’re not doing anything nefarious– they just enjoy the solitude. It’s nice, when the rest of the world is as quiet as they are. They like to find places where the moths dance around, wings bright in the firelight. They dance alongside the insects, their feet barely making a sound. Even their movements are quiet. They watch in awe as the moths flutter around their head, making patterns in the sky. Alauran is a friend to insects and beasts alike. Their benign nature makes it easy for Familiars and other creatures to trust them. If a dragon is having trouble with a pet or with a local Beastclan, they’ll often ask Al for advice. The small Coatl’s wisdom is fairly consistent: it doesn’t matter that they’re not dragons. Every living thing deserves a chance to show how good and kind it is. With this philosophy in mind, they wander through the frozen wastes unharmed. It’s very easy for them to make friends everywhere they go. Besides moving like a shadow in the dark, this is their one true talent– the one they are most admired for. Sometimes, all it takes is a bit of patience to form a bond with a stranger.
