Quartz is the reigning Monarch over the clan of Stormhaven. Though her husband Mist is the emperor, she controls most of what happens within Stormhaven while he deals with outside clans. The empress has made sure to avoid as much contact with outsiders as possible. Luckily for her, all of the dragon groups living in the Wispwillow Grove keep their claws to themselves. While Quartz would prefer her kingdom to be completely cut off from the outside world, she still allows merchants to travel in and out of their kingdom's borders.

The empress works closely with Aurora, her advisor. They met each other while Mist and Quartz were still planning out this new clan of theirs. She had found the nocturn to be suspicious at first, until Aurora told her about how she was trying to escape from her family. Quartz offered for her to be an advisor and she happily took up the position.

The veilspun empress rarely talks to anyone besides her advisor, her husband, and her two offspring. She had a third one, Spinel, who she deeply misses. He had died to an unknown illness while he was still a hatchling which sent Quartz into a state of depression for months. Spinel's death caused her to become overprotective of Lolite and Azurite until they had grown into adults. She still keeps a close watch over them but is more subtle about it. Quartz looks down on Mist's absence from royal matters. They always show up to their shared den way after the empress has fallen asleep and aren't there in the morning. But she's glad that the emperor is at least liked by his people.
