Measuring age in years it would be impossible to say how old Odinn is. He measures his time in civilizations fallen and battles fought. Of both there are many more than he would care to admit, but life presses on. Through some fortunate happening, or perhaps some cruel will, Odinn has survived through it all to bear witness, one of few elder dragons to pass on the tales and stories of the past. Not all stories are verbal, however. Many tales are written in Odinn’s mind and body. Both types of scars the old dragon is adept at hiding. It is unseemly for one so wise to lose his composure over such ancient wounds, and so he doesn’t. Occasionally the pain becomes too much to bear and aeons of emotions bubble to the surface. Thankfully, such moments are rare and almost always private. Battles and wars are the primary horror in Odinn’s past that he tries to run away from. Good friends falling in the fight or having to kill young warriors is not something often forgotten. Odinn truly is a kind soul and killing is not something he takes delight in, but he knows what he has to do to survive and that is what he turns to. But, times of tentative peace have settled on the land and fighting is rare. Now, it is time to move on. Odinn has done his best over the years to draw away from his past life. He has known horrors and does not wish to experience them again. So, he has found ways to distract his mind and body. His favourite obsession that has distracted him for the longest is tinkering. Taking apart old gadgets and putting them back together or creating something new are welcome pastimes. Sometimes he will spend days on end trying to get an old gadget to work for no other reason than to see it come alive once more. This interest with small gadgets and machines led to Odinn’s delight with steampunk fashion and life. Giving his broken gadgets new life as articles of clothing entertained him and seemed to amuse him as well. There was something in seeing a useless old object turned into something useable that amused him. Some other dragons claim that it is his way of justifying his own existence. That if a useless old gadget could find new life, then perhaps an old dragon could as well. It keeps him busy and kept his old wounds and thoughts at bay. Odinn is a strong leader that his clan looks towards, but his pastimes can sometimes be viewed as childish. His clan would never judge him for them, yet other clans may. Which is one reason why his mate shares his burden of leadership. Frigg keeps him grounded and is also able to provide stability and kindness that he requires in his life. He often likes to say that she is the calm eye of his wild storm. Some of the younger dragons in the clan find the elder dragon intimidating and would not dare take their concerns directly to him. That is where he sees the benefit of someone sharing the power with the position. |
