You live to ensure your brother’s survival. He doesn’t remember who it was that said those words to him. Most likely that it was the Empress or was it his own mother, sad eyed as she was. Whoever said those words to him however, they did not know what they did to him. They set him down on a winding path, deep and deeper even into obsession. He masked it as duty. Your sole purpose for existence is to pave your brother’s way to the throne. Yes. His duty, his purpose. Sekuya knew of it the moment he laid eyes on his brother, a radiant, shining figure, larger than life. He was the perfect one, perfect son, perfect leader, he would surpass their father by miles, he only needed a little bit of help to ascend to the throne. Deaf ears and blind eyes, tunnel vision fixated on his brother, Sekuya acted like a bodyguard, a servant and a champion for his brother’s goal. For his perceived goal that was. Vesirtis would become Emperor. Especially after their Tutor made him recount the long line of heirs to the throne that could now be found on the graveyard, resting in their beds of marble and alabaster. No, this would not happen with his brother, he makes sure of this. Sekuya was constantly challenged to show his loyalty, by his mother’s nagging, by his breed’s limitation - the search for a charge - and by those around them. The only answer they seemed to accept was brutality. And he obliged, he escalated more and more, a wild card only tamed by the feverminded loyalty he held towards his brother. His charge? He killed her, burnt her alive for daring to speak foul of her future emperor and his brother. His mother? He beat her into submission, only stopping short of killing her because she was his father’s concubine, won in battle and of noble blood, not that he cared about this, about his roots. Single minded focus, Sekyua didn’t even hesitate to show how filling he was to go too far, when his brother said half in jest that he didn’t deserve to see beauty if he couldn’t understand it, the last thing Sekuya saw was his own blade. He does not accept anyone else as leader, not his father’s favorite, not the twisted upstart from an affair long dead, Sekuya barely grew to tolerate his brother’s future wife. She was from a strange land and another kingdom, he only warmed up to her when she shared with him that she found his blood tinged shows of loyalty nostalgic and familiar to her own home. A woman that understood how things had to be done. Your own life matters little, if your brother demands it, you will lose it. Dying for his brother’s goal, in exchange for his ascension to the bloodied throne of flowers, would be his honor. It is what Sekuya thrives for. The seer himself foretold it. His end would be glorious. |
