Biography
Name: Danouin
Title and/or Role: Bard
Relationship status: Mated to Lorys
Background: Danouin joined the Waterdeep Clan as an adult while it was still quite small – a few months earlier, and he would have been one of its founding members. He had recently struck out on his own and was wandering along the Tsunami Flats when he ran into Faluviel, who seemed to have been waiting for him. She took him back to the clan, introduced him to everyone – and he’d never told her his name – and asked him to sing for them. Danouin blinked a little, and acquiesced.
He had always considered it a moral duty to sing when asked, and his beautiful, deep baritone rang out through the caves while Faluviel smiled. He sung his favourite songs of his vast repertoire that night, and when dawn came, Aluriel asked him to stay. Danouin accepted humbly, becoming the clan’s bard.
A month or so later, Lorys, a travelling storyteller begged a storm’s shelter from the clan. They developed a friendship as they compared his history-songs with her tales. Then Danouin showed her a faltering, unfinished composition and asked her to help him fix it. Lorys read his declaration of love and told him she would gladly be his mate... on the sole condition that he sung it for her, just as it was.
Despite his profession, Danouin is modest and self-effacing, frequently overlooked at clan gatherings until he opens his mouth. That’s exactly the way it should be, he says: the singer is unimportant, but the song is everything.
