Biography
A graveyard tender with a deep mistrust of the living. Unsure of where he fit in society as a hatchling, Saovulf mostly kept to himself, until he was befriended by Folas. Folas was, at the time, training to be a groundskeeper of his clan's graveyard, and as a result often spoke about it. Saovulf was curious to say the least, fascinated by the ritualistic nature of graveyard etiquette. Eventually, Saovulf migrated to the graveyard, living beside it in an abandoned crypt. He learned about gravetending alongside Folas--usually hidden in the bushes but that's beside the point--and began to develop his own rituals in junction with the typical ones. He developed a close relationship with the Black Dog of the graveyard--the spirit of the dog first buried there to protect the other spirits--and could be found wandering the grounds with the hound at his side. Things were peaceful, if eerie, for a long time. Then they weren't.
Spirits are not always kind and benevolent. They don't always creak and groan happily when you greet them. They don't always drift idly in search of things they won't find. Malevolence exists. It haunts ghosts as much as they do the living. It would be Folas' downfall.
Saovulf will not speak of the time around Folas' death, only confirming that he fought the malevolent spirit and released it from its anger as best he could. He moved after that, taking Folas' remains with him. Thankfully, he didn't spend long hunting for a new clan, falling into the Galestorm Flyer's lair with ease. Though there were relatively few burials necessary for dragons themselves, between the necrotic energy and general magic surrounding the Platforms Saovulf had no shortage of souls to tend. He began again, starting his graveyard with the bones of a dog first, then Folas. His best friend returned to his side, Saovulf kept to himself again, assisting the Flyers as needed but never truly joining the lair. He has a platform of course, lives just outside his graveyard in a rickety shack he built himself. He refuses guests overnight, enforcing a sharp curfew of dark for any and all grave visiting and or attempted robbing--the latter by Zegami, mostly--and speaks mostly with ghosts. He has grown idly close with Naliya, though Helios tries to keep them separate, fearing Saovulf's ghost hunting abilities. Saovulf does not care, instead continuing his rituals. He leaves coins by the gate, never steps atop a grave and keeps the paths neatly trimmed and lit. He leaves offerings by the elder wood tree in the center, keeps the headstones clean and untarnished, always ensuring the names are clearly identifiable. He keeps a slow burning lantern in his window for wayward spirits, a basket of fresh lavender always available for those who's rage builds too much. He speaks with the spirits often, asking their stories and names and wishes. He walks with the Black Dog, leaves a burrow of warm blankets out for them.
He will not let another fall, spirit or living.
