Sunset Blaze Brew

What makes a Sunset Blaze Brew?
Here are the ingredients:

*Colors of the foamy ocean lit up by the sun just before it sinks into the horizon.

*Add some sugar, more than is needed for just a kind, sugary sweet heart. Sunset's heartstrings are wound a little too tightly, excitable and nervous.

*A few fluffs of clouds to turn the drink pale and light, though, try not to be an airhead...!

*Bright, sunny extroversion and a splash of energy to go with it.

*Feminine tastes - the sunset is her romantic identity too.uQSPxhr.png

*A bitter squirt of lemon juice that clings to others to cope - being lonesome is so terribly awful.

*The smell of sugar and flowers left to steep.

*A heavy dose of concern, but the top's loose and it spilled... Worry and stress sit like a brown sludge at the bottom of the mug.

*Sweet, colored jellies that stain the teabag and mix with the water, leaving it vibrant and radiant.

*Rose petals floating at the top, but just a few - It's only a crush!

Meadow Spare Tea
Sunset came to Synto just to gather new tea ingredients. She didn't expect to find a family. She clung to them fiercely. Being a tea seller was good, but she found other work with the young dragons of the clan, caring for nests, eggs, and hatchlings. And the other pearlcatcher that worked in the nursery seemed to enjoy her company. She solidified her place with the Historymakers and although she has a reputation among the children to be the worrisome and fretful caretaker, much stricter than Loves, it comes from a place of caring.

She runs a very successful tea shop and has her unique brews shipped and bought from all around Sornieth, and enjoys coming up with new flavors and combinations and their names. A menu from her teahouse would look something like this:

*Blue Sugar Jelly
*Ocean Spray Salt
*Morning Resonance
*Flower Days
*Hoard Rust Brew
*Milk Silk Tea
*Bramble Tang
*Evening Rose Confession
*Alien Lights
*Night Sky Jelly
*Baldwin Sludge Brew - Mystery Flavor!
*Bee Comb Tea
*Herbal Hush Brew
*Making History
*Glowshroom Blush
*Pumpkin Spice Daze

Tea and Roses
Arcane dragons asked questions. They thirsted for knowledge, and sought answers. Questions about the constellations, the sky, the unknown, about magic and science. When arcane children hatch, they fall out of their eggs with wide pink and purple eyes, hungry for new experiences.

When Sunset broke out of her shell, she collapsed in the nest and blinked, then fell asleep curled around her pearl, uninterested in exploring her surroundings.

Her parents thought she was ill, sick, that she wouldn’t last the night.

It turned out she was just uninterested. The dragonet didn’t seem to care for staring wide-eyed at anything, even though her siblings stared at everything. She was perfectly healthy, eating food, toddling around occasionally, flapping her small, wrinkled wings, drinking water, she just had no questions.

Her parents were baffled. They could not understand their tiny child who did not want to learn. Hatchlings have empty minds, ready for everything to be their first time at something, so many new questions and answers, and Sunset was not curious about any of it.

She grew up alongside her better, smarter siblings, who were curious and good little arcane children, and largely ignored them. It turned out that Sunset liked flowers and bugs. Her parents were distraught. All of their other children were interested in cosmic power and magic, and Sunset… crawled about in the dirt and grass, mixing muddy water together and staring at anthills.

Over time, as her parents moved away from her, she continued her little experiments and apprenticed at a small teahouse, taking on the name Sunset Blaze Brew after a particularly good brand by the same name. The teahouse shut down after struggling for some time to stay afloat, leaving Sunset lost and with no plan for the future. Anxious and frightened, she moved from job to job, lair to lair, never making any truly meaningful relations in the studious circles of Arcane.

She eventually traveled out of her birthplace with no remorse to what she was leaving behind, and wandered into plague, where the dragons did not care about tea and there was no dirt to grow tea leaves in. She attempted to plant a small garden by digging into the flesh of the earth, but pus and blood bubbled up if she dug too deep, and nothing happened in her months of tending to her seeds. Plague ground was too diseased and infertile. There was certainly nothing for her here, and she moved along.

Continuing to head East, she crossed into Shadow, which, opposing Plague, was too verdant. The forest crushed the very light from the sky, the brambles twisted and the tall, slanted pines dripped with sludge and heavy fog. Her plant seeds grew into thorny, darker versions of her tea plants, and the tea the leaves produced was bitter and thick, coating one’s tongue. Sunset saw this as a challenge and slowly perfected her recipes, making good tea from the forest’s dark plants and selling hot mugs to weary or cold travelers. Business was good here, and she wandered through the forest with her dried tea and supplies until she came across a particularly interesting clan of dragons.

The Historymakers accepted their newest merchant but refused to answer her questions about the giant, strange structure they all lived in. They enjoyed her tea and let their youngsters play with her, which she thoroughly enjoyed, but were otherwise distant. However, the hatchlings found her endlessly interesting, and Sunset took great pleasure relaying her stories from her time in Arcane and Plague, teaching them and making sure they weren’t hurt. She found herself growing attached to the Historymakers, especially the other hatchling caretaker, a fellow pearlcatcher who held in her clutches not only a shimmering pearl but a few unhatched eggs, kept close as she watched over the hatchlings and sang to them in a flowing voice.

Lovesong babbled on and on, for the life of her Sunset could not discern a word but listened intently anyway, and when told that their nursery head was speaking nonsense, the townsfolk nodded and said she came to them like that.

Over time, she grew to understand Lovesong’s blabber, and took great pride in seeing her ‘students’ grow and learn, though that nagging thought of leaving to continue her business elsewhere never left her, and she eventually announced her moving on from Synto.

The townsfolk were saddened. An elderly skydancer grieved, and a golden guardian bowed his head, but it was Lovesong that cried the hardest, clung to Sunset and begged her to stay. The hatchlings tugged at her ankles, and even one of the leaders offered to give Sunset a place to stay in the caves beneath the town where the hatchery lay.

The dragons that cared this much for Sunset that they would ask her to stay and offer a house - it brought the skittish, nomadic pearlcatcher to tears herself and she gratefully accepted the offer.

Lovesong clutched Sunset by her wrist and wouldn’t let her go until they had reached the caves, where she gave her a soulful look and returned to playing with the young dragonets.

---

Sunset, now officially a nursery caretaker, spends most of her time either above ground selling tea in the marketplace or underground teaching the hatchlings. She sells her brews to not only the Historymakers but to other clans as well, and is a famed teamaker with unique and hand-grown ingredients from shadow and beautiful tea names.

She is unofficially Lovesong’s translator and best friend, able to interpret her garbled speech to other dragons, especially to concerned parents about their hatchlings. But that lingering feeling… Lovesong was the first dragon to ever care about and befriend Sunset. She enjoyed when the pink pearlcatcher would run to hug her, sing for her - multiple dragons had called Lovesong beautiful, but had brushed off the idea of falling in love with her. Too strange. Too strange? They simply didn’t understand her, much as Sunset’s own parents hadn’t understood her.

Sunset hurriedly gave Lovesong a voucher for free tea at her teahouse anytime and flew off.

Lovesong’s love songs and ballads have new meaning to Sunset.

She’s supposed to be running a business and teaching children, not listening to some pretty girl sing cheesy romance, but it’s becoming undeniable that Sunset has developed a crush on Lovesong. How embarrassing.

Anxiety and two jobs keep her busy, it’s unfortunate that one of her jobs has Lovesong as her coworker. Jacey, who supplies Sunset with fresh honey for her brews, gives a knowing smile leaving the teahouse. Even the captain of the guard seems to have caught on. It’s a relief that Lovesong is rather ditzy and hasn’t caught on yet--

A few weeks later, Lovesong shows up at the teahouse with a bouquet of tea bundles and roses mixed together and starts serenading Sunset. Everyone in the teahouse claps, and Sunset is sure she’s turned as pink as Lovesong herself. The story of the two lovey-dovey pearlcatchers is often retold, particularly when Sunset is listening, as she will snap at whoever is telling the tale - “It didn’t happen like that!” and the rest will have a good-natured laugh.

P.S.
Sunset made a special brew just for Lovesong made out of the tea leaves, other plants, and rose petals that she had been given. It’s called “Evening Rose Confession” and it’s broadly known as a cute gift to buy your sweetheart.
