Biography
KAIDU / THE REANIMATED / HE/THEY
Reanimated by the fire burning within him, Kaidu continues to walk the world with his guide, Caspian.
Kaidu was an ancient Banescale, frozen in the final, climactic battle against the Gaolers. Caspian unearthed him from where he'd fallen, and he was reanimated by a spark of fire living within him. Kaidu used to be a prominent warrior, although he was only in the draconic equivalent of his late 20s when he died.
Personality-wise, Kaidu is proud, honorable, jovial, and curious about this strange new world. He's the sort of dragon that'd challenge another to a duel for a slight of honor, but he wouldn't be a sore loser if they happened to win, and he wouldn't judge them if they were unwilling or unable to fight. He's decently intelligent and willing to learn further, but it's difficult for him to distinguish between dragons that are well-meaning and ones that are pulling his leg when he asks about things that'd be obvious to a modern dragon.
Following Banescale traditions, Kaidu was also an experienced singer. His voice has gotten a lot raspier after he was reanimated, though, and suffice to say his performances aren't what the average observer would call... good. This is pretty stressful for Kaidu, who's trying to make do by learning a modern draconic instrument instead. That isn't going very well-- he doesn't exactly have hands, and feet and wings are too clumsy to play most instruments well-- but Caspian has learned (after a long, long while) to tolerate his "practice sessions".
As for relationships, Caspian the archaeologist is Kaidu's guide through this strange new world. Kaidu regards Caspian with great honor and respect, and he's inclined to blame himself for the icy curse that befell Caspian when he unearthed Kaidu. He considers himself almost in service to Caspian as a guard and protector. Caspian doesn't necessarily deny this-- it's nice to have a terrifying, fiery dragon when he's traveling through dangerous lands-- but it's rare that he actually calls on Kaidu to do something. That doesn't mean Kaidu won't take it upon himself to defend Caspian's honor at the archaeological society's grant meetings...
His faithful hunting-hound, Cuan, also fell beside him. Kaidu loves Cuan, even though he isn't quite as fluffy as he used to be, and Cuan has remained a loyal companion even beyond death.
