Biography

Smells overbearingly of mint.

- Skilled medic
- Cannibal
- Losing feathers constantly
- Strange way of talking “Wistfully willed and wonderful while wastefully waiting on whom you’ll never witlessly welcome.” Junk like that. “Quite the quandary…”
- Horrible memory
- Not fond of enclosed spaces with other people (alone they are fine, preferred even) he’s kept up at night thinking about who he’ll have to share a prison cell with if anyone finds out what he’s done

Crash course in medieval medicine:

Disinfectant: Honey, wine, vinegar, myrrh

Anesthesia:
While it is widely believed there was none, there most certainly was. Many herbs were used until the invention of general anesthesia, often these herbs where mixed into something called Dwale. Dwale had many recipes. One mixture might include all or some of the following: Bile, opium, lettuce, bryony, henbane, hemlock and vinegar.
Vinegar and salt could be used to wake someone up.
Take three spoonfuls of the gall of a barrow swyne
and for a woman of a gylte, three
spoonfuls of hemlock juice, three spoonfuls of
ye wild neep, three spoonfuls of letuce,
three spoonfuls of pape, three spoonfuls
of henbane, and three spoonfuls of eysyl
and mix them all together and boil
them a little and put them in a glass vessel
well stopped and put thereof three spoonfuls into
a potel of good wine and mix it well
together. When it is needed, let
him that shall be carved sit against a
good fire and make him to drink
thereof until he fall asleep and then may
right you safely carve him, and when
you have done the cure and would have him
to awaken, take vinegar and salt and
wash well his temples and his cheekbones
and he shall awake from rest.

Cuts:
Cuts would be sewn up if possible. But those two deep would often call for the amputation of the limb they occupied. Without a way to stop heavy bleeding this would cause death in 39% of people getting lower leg/forearms amputated vs 62% of those with amputations closer to the trunk. Grease was often used to seal wounds.

Broken Bones:
Only long bones such as those in the arms or legs could be mended. They would be immbolized with a splint or a plaster made of flour and egg whites.

Burns:
Vinegar, egg, rose oil, opium, and a multitude of different herbs were applied to burns in an attempt to keep them from drying and thus forming blisters.

Herbs:
Coca, Clove, Cinchona, Dhatura, Jasmine, valerian for general anesthesia
Headache was treated with sweet-smelling herbs such as rose, chamomile, lavender, sage, and hay.
Aching joints with henbane and hemlock.
Self heal, burdock, feverfew, willow, coriander for fever.
Stomach pains and sickness were treated with wormwood, Thyme, Fenugreek, dill, chamomile, caraway, basil, anise, mint, lavender, sage, Oregano and balm.
Lung problems were treated with liquorice, Fenugreek, anise and comfrey.
Mint, Horehound, Valerian, St. John's Wort for venom and poison.
Goosegrass, Comfrey (bones), Garlic, aloe, Yarrow (especially this),and boneset for breaks and cuts.
Anxiety and depression required balm, Motherwort, Thyme
Blackberry for gout
Cinnamon, Horehound, dandelion for colds
Coltsfoot, Thyme, Hyssop, Elecampane for wheezing and coughs
Fennel for babies and mothers
Pennyroyal for fleas
Burns need St. John's Wort
Pain relief, Valerian, Yarrow

V SPOILERS IF YOUR IN THE CASTLE RP THIS MAN IS A PART OF! GO NO FURTHER V

Beware trypophobia and gore
- Gray is infected with some sort of parasitic thing. He is gradually being degraded as the parasite feeds on him. He hates to be seen without a face covering because he feels like others can tell something isn’t right.
- He is prone to blisters and dark burn like outbreaks due to his affliction.
- His tongue is like a cats. This is pretty much unnoticeable unless you look close which he’ll never let anyone do.
- His blood is much thicker then it ever should be. It’s such a dark red that it is often perceived as black-brown. It behaves separate from him and writhes when large amounts pool.
- The parasite can control just a bit of his brain and often causes him to binge eat raw/still living food when he isn’t well rested. During these episodes his eyes are often bloodshot with black veins instead of the usual red.
- Gray is aware that the parasite is consuming him but he found that feeding it the flesh of other humans slows the process quite a fair bit.
- The parasite makes his hair fall out and in an attempt to keep it he’s invented some crazy thing that helps but turned his handsome brown locks into a white wiry mess.
- He named his disease infirmitas sanguisuga (weakness of the bloodsucker/Leech weakness)
- The parasite is just super rabies

More on Infirmitas Sanguisuga (Feel free to give this to your characters, I’d love to see my little guys getting around)
- While Gray refers to it as a disease it’s actually a parasite. (It will get a new name to reflect that when I think of one.)
- It begins its life cycle in the body of leeches in warm marshes. During that time each individual is microscopic, a very large number of individuals can inhabit just one leech.
- The organism then travels from the leech’s saliva to the blood of a larger animal. There it consumes the creatures blood. It has adapted to work as blood to make up for how much is being consumed. They become very dark in color and reproduce (one individual dies and a bunch come out) to fill all available space.
- It releases chemicals that causes the host to overeat. Particularly raw or rotting meat. Due to the parasites preference for human host consuming human flesh and blood will make them happiest. If the parasite is fed well it will attack the hosts body less in favor of the blood they are producing.
- During it’s final stage I when it’s reproducing more than the body can hold it releases more chemicals to influence the hosts mind. It causes them to become a husk of themselves, just a body to be moved by the parasite. It influences the host to seek a body of warm shallow water. There the host dies and the parasite it’s it’s way out. Without a host it loses its ability to eat and give live birth and it dies quickly without a host. The strongest individuals lay eggs in the skin of leeches which then hatch and burrow in to start the cycle anew. :)
- It usually finds a host during late fall or the early parts of winter to avoid the potentially lethal cold. It stays with its host for as long as it takes to get to the final stage, .5-5 years? (Longer for rp reasons if needed) It looks for a final resting place in spring.

Symptoms:
- Easy bruising
- Strange breakouts all over skin, especially where skin is thin or veins are large or clustered close together
- Blood becomes dark and thick (joints, face, etc)
- Headaches
- Blackouts
- Difficulty sleeping and feeling rested
- Paranoia
- Delirium
- Hallucinations
- Malaise
- Aggression
- Irritability
- Insatiable hunger
- Desire to consume raw or rotting meat
- Sensitivity to cold
- Increased strength
- Loss of feeling in extremities
- Shakiness
- Hair loss
- Nausea and vomiting
- Loss of taste
- Dry mouth
? - Very rough tongue (IDK cat tongue stuff)(maybe internal-ish bits like tongue, inner cheek, eyelid, or inner nose become thick and scratchy. Dunno. Gives the face a threatening and animalistic look, keeps one from blinking to often and takes away the ability to breathe through one’s nose.) ?
- Ego death
- Muscle spasms
- Brain death
