"If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle."
- Sun Tzu, The Art of War

Since he was young, those who knew Goliath said that he was born with a sword in his hand. With each year that passed, his knowledge on the use of the various weapons he would come across would increase. He was truly a weapons master.

When he was of age, he joined a local mercenary group who often were sent to deal with skirmishes at the borders. It didn't matter if the opponent was dragonkind or beastkin or a horde of rabid monsters, when they were paid for a task, they executed.

After a couple decades, his name became known in certain towns and cities. He had save most of the coin he was paid for past jobs and was able to afford to break away from the mercenary group. It wasn't because of any bad blood. He wanted to be more discerning of the contracts put forward to him and only rely on a smaller, tighter knit group.

His efforts paid off as his name became synonymous with success and requests would flood in from all over Sornieth. However, before he accepted any, he would always do proper reconnaissance. He had little interest to be caught in the middle of a political war, especially if it may hinder travel for himself or his fellow associates.

Every decision was calculated with as much information he could acquire. If he didn't have the knowledge, he knew someone who did or could get it. His discretion and thoroughness were highly praised by those around him.

However, his life would take a sudden change one day when he happened upon a beautifully carved statue with flowers and gems around them...
