Heliodora
The Bringer of Joy
Heliodora
The Bringer of Joy
|
The gentle lapping of waves on the beach, a gently warm sun on the scales, a hatchling cuddling their plushie, the excitement of a great discovery. All invoke feelings of joy and happiness, something that Heliodora strives to spread among the Lapidians. To the Lapidians, Heliodora embodies the core values of joy, purity, and wholesomeness. They believe Heliodora to be a young soul, freshly made of stardust and cosmic energy, sent to give hope to the small clan of dragons when they come across dark times. Because of being young an pure, Heliodora is often described as also naïve and overly friendly and generous among those in the realm of spirits and deities. Truth be told, she is often referred as the one responsible for showing the Lapidians that there are guiding spirits since her naivety leads to a carelessness that causes her to be seen more frequently in the waking world than the other deities. The Lapidians rejoice at the sight of her, since she is living hope for the clan. Legends say, that like the story Rubel and Almandine, Heliodora is bound to the deity Melichrysos. It is said that she found the spirit of Melichrysos solemnly reminiscing over his past life, and the innocent Heliodora did her all to cheer him up. While it annoyed Melichrysos at first, the warlord spirit came to grow fond of Heliodora's undying kindness and the friendship she offered the lonely soul. However, Melichrysos became irritated and jealous that Heliodora also offered that same kindness and friendship to the mortals. He believed that her generous naievity and interfearence with the mortals would cause trouble. Heliodora was often hurt by these negative emotions, so Melichrysos tried to keep them to himself and quiet. The negative emotions spilled from Melichrysos, however, when he overheard some nefarious dragons plotting to take advantage of his precious Heliodora, enraging the warlord spirit and bringing a deadly storm to the mortals. Heliodora did what she could to calm the storm, but in doing so made Melichrysos whisk her away from the mortals, towards the heavens, where he swore to keep her protected from the mortals. In order to keep Melichrysos calm, Heliodora agreed to stay in the heavens with him, and worked her magic from the spirit realm like other deities. However, during holidays and other festivities, Heliodora sneaks to the mortal realm to spread cheer among the Lapidians, or at least she thinks, because Melichrysos still watches her from the heavens, ready to jump in to protect her at a moment's notice. Many Lapidians pray to Heliodora to have happiness on holidays and birthdays, and others will pray for her to bless their nests or their fields for good fertility. In the Shrine, Heliodora has a figure made of golden crystal that reflects light like the sun, and it is hung above the statue of Melichrysos. Her mane is sculpted to look like it is flowing elegantly and makes her look like a benevolent princess. |
