Faye didn't want to run into the dark, handsome Wildclaw stranger in the Tangled Wood. She didn't mean to get lost in his deep purple eyes, or trip and make them both stumble down the deep, abandoned mineshaft that caved in as soon as they had hit the ground.

Yet here they were, sprawled and tangled up on the craggy, cold ground, surrounded by earthen walls. Faye was blind to her surroundings- she was born in the Water Flight, but bought by a Shadow Clan as soon as she was hatched, so her night vision wasn't like that of the shadow dragons. The only thing she could cling to was the warm stranger who had pillowed her fall.

"Look, here's the thing- I usually take dragons out for dinner before it gets to this point." He chuckled, his voice echoing off the stone walls. Faye felt herself blush intensely and she scrambled off of him, setting her jaw and thanking the deities it was too dark in here to see how embarrassed she was. He got to his feet, letting out a low groan and folding his wings tight against his sides. They'd fallen from quite a height. She was surprised his ribs, and everything else, wasn't broken.

"The mine caved in. Huh." He stated, looking up at the rubble scattered with smokey crystal and something he assumed was clay mixed with dark stone. Faye scowled and lashed her tail, laying back her crest feathers in agitation.
"How observant." She hissed, "I expected you to have a brain in that handsome head of yours." She finished, narrowing her eyes in his general direction and ruffling her feathers up. It was cold.
"And I expected a bit more charm, maybe some manners, coming from you, little miss 'let me just invade your personal space like a creepy stalker dragon and push us both down a mine shaft.'" He started talking in a higher pitch, clearly mocking her, but Faye could hear him grinning.

"Touché." Faye said coldly, "but I did not invade your personal space, and I was not stalking you, and that was an accident. So really, not touche." She added coldly, in a low, sour tone.
"Aren't you just Ms. Congeniality. I bet your clanmates love your company." The dark stranger said sarcastically, clearly amused by their situation. Faye couldn't help but smile, though. After all, he was pretty funny. And handsome. And charming. Maybe she could bring herself to be a little more friendly around him.

The mineshaft wasn't the only place they met after that. Faye wanted to keep seeing him- and he felt the same way. He said his name was Umbra, and that he was clanless, a lone wanderer in the Tangled Wood just trying to find his place in the world. Faye was blinded by how smitten she was with him. If she'd paid more attention, maybe she'd have caught the signs; how he seemed indestructible, moved faster then an average Wildclaw, or how he seemed to disappear into the darkness.

When he told Faye, a Nephilim from a Shade hunter clan, that he was in fact Shade-Touched, the SkyDancer was understandably torn. How could she betray her clan, her very reason for living, her purpose in life, for one dragon? Umbra was reasonable and apologetic- he should have told her sooner, shouldn't have ever let himself get attatched.... Faye was furious with him, but she couldn't bring herself to let him go. He'd managed to uncover her soft side. She'd managed to finally peel back his many layers of charm and strength and find that vulnerability he'd never let show. Despite being a Skydancer, she could never tell what he was feeling. Maybe that was another reason she'd wanted to stay with him- winning his heart had sort of been a contest to her, seeing who he really was behind his mask. She'd felt fulfilled with him.

That conversation had been cut short by the sound of an arrow stabbing through Umbra's neck, ripping through his tough scales with a jet of crimson-purple blood. He let out a gurgling cough as his knees buckled underneath him and he collapsed, falling against Faye.
In that moment, Faye regretted ever meeting Umbra. She regretted every second she spent with him. Not because she hated he was Shade, or that he'd been hiding anything from her, but because it was the reason he was bleeding out on the ground in front of her.
"Run, Faye." Were the last words he ever said to her.

So Faye ran, and ran and ran, trying to escape from her clan that was hunting her down for betraying them and what they stood for. Faye didn't know how they found out. All Faye knew was that if she didn't run, she was going to die, too. At one point she found a cave with a large tunnel system and ran into it, hoping to lose the hunters on her trail. There was a part of her that just wanted to get lost in it and die.
It was in that cave she met Morganite, Alchides and Sanguine. They had been out gathering minerals when Faye ran into them, four Nephilim on her tail and more closing in. The three pawns knew Krahé was always for new possible exalt fodder and soul energy, so they decided to claim her and fought off the Shade Hunters, took Faye to Krahé, and waited to hear what would happen to her.

Faye's poor luck finally seemed to given her break, cause Krahé decided she was worth more alive then dead or exalted. Well, at least Faye thinks it did.

This dragon is a member of the cross-flight subspecies Nephilim and meets the specific coloration and genetic criteria set forth by the creator of this subspecies.

The Nephilim, also known as the Shadowhunters, are a sect of dragons dedicated to fighting the Shade that have been blessed by their deity and undertake a complex series of oaths and rituals in order to augment their combat abilities. These dragons consider themselves to possess angelic qualities and powers, and are marked by Seraph wings and dark-colored Runes that signify this blessing.

Nephilim generally have black-range Runes and desaturated wings, as well as light-colored primary genes that allow the runes to be seen. These runes endow the Shadowhunters with above-average strength and allow them to more easily perceive the Shade.

Nephilim dragons are most commonly found in species with a history of combat. While many Nephilim choose to live in lairs with others of their kind, they are more than capable of operating on their own. While the Shade will always be their first priority, Nephilim have taken on many roles historically, including weapon-making, archival work and coliseum training. The Hewn City is a special place for the Nephilim, as the Lightweaver is the deity that most closely aligns with their work. This is why many Nephilim are Light dragons or have chosen to make a pilgrimage to the Hewn City at some point in their training.

This subspecies is based on the Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare.
