BLACK CATS
All cats are important in the dream lands, but small black kittens have special meaning. Contrary to superstition, the black cats have no different luck than other cats. However, they seem more likely to form special connections with dreamers, such as Menes or Randolph Carter. In this way, they can be used to test a dragon's truthfulness; no true dreamer could resist paying his or her respects to these small creatures. It was because of a small black cats that Ulthar created its legal policies protecting the species. When a couple murdered the kitten of an orphaned boy, the other cats joined forces to take revenge. Later, these cats would start a war with the zoogs in order to protect a little black kitten. This cat and his family remembered Carter's help and repaid him for it later, rescuing him from the moon beasts. These cats are usually small creatures with golden eyes. They love to frolic and play, and they are loyal friends if one pets them and occasionally offers a saucer of milk.
