Rasmus is an ancient, ancient dragon. He does not speak the tongue of his modern clan and can only pick up on simple things and some social ques. He cannot participate in many typical bonding rites that perhaps might help him assimilate into the clan- being a reanimated soul, he cannot eat, drink, or sleep. Haunted by a curse that makes him endlessly hungry, he takes special care to make sure those around him never are. It's really the only thing he can do, and the truth is, he feels some guilt for what he did long ago.
It's not uncommon for him to vanish for days or weeks at a time, but he always comes back with something to offer. Things that dragons may do for "fun" are foreign concepts to him. All he knows is survival of the strong. Holding dearly to these old values, he does not hesitate to back up and respect his new leader, Justinian. The Adric Sect found him, so he is loyal solely to them regardless of what they do.

The one thing that seems to break through to him is music. When any kind of music plays he seems to relax just a little and talk just a little bit more.

Rasmus was born in what is now the north shores of the Sunbeam Ruins. So long ago, when dragons were feral creatures that had to scavenge for food, it was actually nature territory. His people were loosely bound clan of dragons, newly shaped by the gods.

Back then, dragons served one purpose- to take over the world in place of the deities. They hunted, fought, and did anything possible to survive and conquer. Rasmus, a skilled hunter, was no exception. He prospered in his chosen path. Even in the dead of winter when things burrowed into the swamp to sleep, he managed to keep his clan well-fed. And it was this that made him rise to the top. It was sound logic, really- the dragons nearby could not live without him, and so they knew it was important he was kept well fed. Anyone would want to live next to someone who was sure to keep them alive.

One would expect that the power would go to Rasmus’ head. Interestingly, he seemed to go the other extreme. He became obsessed with feeding his people. As the idea of civilization emerged, more and more flocked to the swamp desiring food. With the weight of many lives on his shoulders, he spiraled into a haze. In his eyes, every moving thing deserved to be killed and eaten. Anything that was not a dragon was food for dragons. Any insect, plant, or fish found on the territory was to be brought back to the clan.

To an outside observer, he was going insane. Indeed, it seemed as if he was eerily obsessed with death. He over-hunted on purpose just so that he could spend hours examining the corpses. They began to pile up and overflow into where the clan ate and slept. No one else would touch them, they could not be eaten, and Rasmus refused to move them. As they decomposed, diseases were spread into the clan and many died. But still no one went hungry, for still Rasmus hunted.

The ecosystem's resources were exhausted. When he realized what he had done, Rasmus declared that the clan must go somewhere else. But his people were fed up. On the day they'd planned to depart, a few individuals stalked him as he hunted. They pounced on him and drove his head into the swamp until his chest stopped heaving. There he was left, just another corpse among the pile. His old clan departed as if nothing had happened- they prospered in their new territory- when the Lightweaver claimed it as her own, they were the ones who built the famed sundial terrace.

As for Rasmus, he was buried by the elements over time. But something strange happened to his body. Perhaps the Gladekeeper, angry at what he had done, was the one who cursed him. Perhaps it was her sister, the Plaguebringer, gifting him with new life. Whatever the case was, his body lay there for eons, never decomposing. And when a storm flooded the area and uncovered his body, it was the Adric Sect who woke him.

Today he is angry at the world, for whatever curse or charm was laid upon him said that he would always be hungry- as punishment for his deeds. He could never eat or sleep. He could never die of starvation. But he had to feel what he had never felt before. An unrelenting and neverending wave of hunger.
