Biography

this part is prob gonna become outdated after I finish the bio segments and stuff. even if it stays, it’s more of a tl;dr version of what happened

Something happened to Android, a long time ago. Someone took her, and twisted her beyond recognition: after his tampering, she became what she is now. She does not remember more than that.

Her memories only solidify around the time some dragons from Clan Stryker found her. They were shocked at what her creator had done to her; they took her in and tried to reverse what was done to her, but the damage was done. Tampering would only make things worse.

But she had been in pain ever since the beginning, and her in her heart raged a burning hatred for her creator. She would track him down and destroy him, just as he had destroyed her, by any means necessary. She volunteered to be part of Fighter’s elite force of combat dragons; she would find him... eventually.

All she felt was pain, and self-loathing, and loathing for her creator as she trained with her modified talons, and learned to slash at her opponents with fire. Fighter was impressed.

By the time she was done, she became part of the patrol force, just as she had requested; every day since then, she has soared over the outposts and expanses of desert, scanning, searching.

She has yet to find her creator.

Notes: “Android” is what the clan calls her. Android herself has no name.

Speaking with her electrolarynx is painful, so she rarely talks, and when she does, talks in as few words as possible. Other dragons are wary of her silence, but she’s just being efficient.

If you put a recorder in a scuba suit’s regulator, and breathed into it, and recorded the noise, that noise is what her breathing sounds like.

A young Pearlcatcher, yet to receive her name, clambered up to the metal platform that overlooked the Great Furnace, balancing her pearl atop her head; her larger Ridgeback sister clambered after her, chirping. Smoke filled the blackened sky; everywhere one could hear the great clanging of metal striking metal, the roar of the fires in the bellows, the shouts of dragons communicating with one another over the grind of machinery and whir of the drills.

The Pearlcatcher approached the edge of the platform, removing the pearl from her head and setting it down beside her. Far below was the glowing, bubbling, smoldering crater of the Ashfall Waste’s largest volcano; she could see dragons swoop down to harvest the lava with buckets of heat-resistive metal, some of them dipping their tails or limbs into the molten materials to check the temperature. The Ridgeback stopped next to her, peering down at the volcano.

“What did you bring me here for?” the Ridgeback queried. She twisted her head sharply; her piercing dark orange eyes scrutinized her smaller sister.

The Pearlcatcher flicked her tufted tail and waved a talon at the churning molten metals below. “Don’t you want to enjoy the view?” she asked. “Relax for a moment from carrying coals to the furnaces?” She genuinely needed a break from the grueling work, and believed her sister could do the same.

Her sister scoffed. “Don’t be a fool,” she bristled. “Fire dragons are always at work. We must serve the Flamecaller and keep her forges alight; we do not have time for such pleasantries as ‘enjoying the view.’ This is a waste of time.” She turned away and took wing, soaring back to the bellows of the Great Furnace.

The dragon was left alone on the platform’s edge; she sighed, a wisp of smoke curling from her mouth, and rolled her pearl between her talons. She spread her wings, letting the volcano’s roiling heat soothe her, until she thought she was ready to return to the burning forges. Grasping her pearl between her claws, she took flight, winging her way back to the obsidian and metal structures that were heavily obscured by the black smoke in the air. She was flying home, back to her family—

And then something seized her mid-air, razor-sharp claws digging into her shoulders. The young Pearlcatcher shrieked, writhing against the iron grasp; the claws pierced her skin, the sharp pain causing her to snarl as warm rivulets of blood ran down her sides. Moving on instinct, she whipped her head around and sank her teeth into the talon gripping her shoulder. Warm, thick blood that tasted of iron flooded her mouth, and she bit down harder as the dragon above her snarled in pain—

And then another dragon crashed into her, prying her jaws off her attacker’s, clipping on a band of cold iron. The two tossed her into a rough burlap sack. She growled, struggling, but her young dragonet claws could not pierce the fabric; eventually she gave up, curling around her pearl as her attackers carried her through the sky.
