The Plague, raw and hungry; into its depths she strode to fulfill her role, into the dark below. Where beauty is scorned and wretchedness is divine. Through the writhing masses she climbed, for her people, and for her kind. She would cut off the vine at the root. Victorious she rose, blackened blade in hand; and into the blinding light she crawled once more. Tortured and battle-torn, yet head held high. But hatred and disgust rolled from the lips of her kind, her beauty had been marred in their eyes. No longer was she pure radiance, the darkness had left its mark. Her halo was tarnished, to shadow her heart descended. She found beauty in the dark and brought ruin to her scornful brethren.*

*She came to believe that the darkness had not ruined her beauty like her brethren claimed it had, but that it was a new kind of beauty that they would never acknowledge or understand, and she used that beauty to utterly ruin those who looked down upon her and her valiant efforts to fulfill her role (and what was supposed to also be their role) that led her to become "tarnished" in their eyes.
They believed themselves too important, too Holy, and dare I say, beautiful, to believe they had to fulfill this role anymore, but she stayed true to her creed, and in return they mocked and turned their backs on her for it in the end. They had lost their way as Holy Entities a long time ago, but this was the final nail in their coffins. Righteousness had to return, so she ripped out the rotting heart so that healing may return once more...
