Children of Carthach and Dairine aren’t born - they’re made. Like their parents before them, they’re shaped out of latent elemental magic, but this time, they were created on purpose. After centuries of existence, the two nature spirits have learned how to manipulate the magic that suffuses Sornieth to create new life.

Shaped like a dragon, but unmistakably fey, any hatchling of theirs is uncomfortable for mortal dragonfolk to be around. Most don’t care, more interested in their own goals than conforming to the expectations of those around them, but some few children become experts at adapting instead. No matter what, they all have a powerful connection to the nature and earth magics that gave them form, and no one, not even their parents, know what they will become.

There have always been tales about forests, about the deep places within them where you can no longer pinpoint what trail you followed to get there, and about the creatures you could meet in such hidden groves. Some of these fables have fantastical endings, with lessons about bravery and kindness and the rewards of such virtues. The stories about Dougal aren’t like that. “Be wary,” the tales caution, “of the stranger met in the dark woods, of the drake with too many teeth, of fearful green eyes open in the shade of the deep forest. Be wary, for such a creature has no care in its heart for the lives of mortal dragonfolk.”

The stories about Dougal are right.
