Biography
For the repeat experiment, I decided to be a little bold. Organs and samples were taken exclusively from bodies that were recorded to be magic-users, along with samples taken from Donor Subject 2 ("Honeyrot"). By all accounts, Project Arcana is alive! But she regularly has fits that I at first believed to be cardiac arrest. But cardiac arrest isn't chronic - it's not regular like the behaviour the subject exhibits.
The project cannot continue like this. It's putting too much stress on the body. I must find a solution for this quickly.
Consultation with Divori suggests that the magic is having difficulty understanding which element it is supposed to be drawing power from. That's fine. Further transplants from remains of one element should hopefully balance things out again.
I did it. Project Arcana is stabalised. She - she says she is a girl, which is fascinating, and I've made a note of it - is breathing and moving just as Project Scavenger does. Fresher blood samples from the border seemed to have fixed the instability problem.
The fact that she is showing the ability to use magic again is quite promising! Though not my field, I was still able to restore the body. I know sinew and tissue. No-one can surpass me there.
The two projects seem to be getting along great! Project Arcana (Note to self: Pick name later) seems eager to interact with both her sister and with the two donors, demonstrating a faster ability to socialise than her predecessor. I was right when I said repeating the experiment would improve results substantially.
Project Arcana is not stable. Her body is exquisite, a masterpiece. At a glance, her mind is too, but there is an unpredictable element to her personality. The project is stubborn, self-assured, and playful. All of that is fine! But she's insecure. When frightened, the subject quickly enters a panic which triggers a defensive magic. It uses her, her body, the hereditary trait from Honeyrot, to shape what it desires.
Project Arcana is not ready for the public. I'll work with her, keep trying, so that she isn't cooped up in the lab for the rest of her life. Project Scavenger has completed successful daytrips, but I fear that a public setting is too unpredictable and will trigger another incident.
I will avoid outsourcing my research as much as possible. Divori already seemed suspicious that I was asking him questions about a field I told him I have no interest in. For now I will focus on the behavioural aspect, because that is what I know, and will likely take care of the problem.
