Occasus grew up alongside Hecate, and that is why he was so quick to join her when she offered to turn him into a Veilspun. He believed, wholeheartedly, that she wanted what was best for the Arcanum, and he knew that she felt the same about wanting a permanent place to call home, something that Winter simply couldn't understand. It was too easy to lose knowledge while constantly traveling from place to place, so Occasus jumped on the chance to have a permanent residence. Hecate promised that he would have his own order of knights, protectors of their swarm, and he trusted that she had only the best of intentions. That is why her betrayal stung so very badly.

He now knows that his childhood friend is not the dragon that she used to be, and he has been forced to see that she will stoop to any cruelty, including the painful process of turning a dragon against their will, to achieve her goals. He has learned, through whispers and rumors that ring too strongly of the truth, that she only turned him because of his magically powerful bloodline. Fine. If she wants to tear their clan, their people, apart, then she has to be stopped.

The Sun Division is meant to be honorable and put the defense of the clan above all else, after all. If Hecate is a detriment to the clan's well-being, then they'll just have to get rid of her.
