GANYMEDE

"cool quote here cool quote here"

One thing about the sky is that it never changes.

Clouds drift across the horizon, rain trickles down from the heavens, and the sun sets in the west every night, but it's always back the next morning, ready to illuminate the world. And the stars cross the sky and the moon waxes and wanes, but they're always there in that same comforting pattern. Perhaps if we stare at them long enough we will find answers.

The ocean across the way is turbulent, evil- it has no pattern nor mercy. The turbulent, rolling tides is the place Ganymede calls home.

Seven years back, although it feels like thousands now- a dragon by the name of Mirage fell out of the sky.

Ganymede found her drifting in the waves, with a broken wing and infected cut. She was bigger than him, but he lifted her onto his back and brought her all the way back to his humble abode. She slept peacefully for nine days. She looked so beautiful and calm and regal lying there that Ganymede wondered if he had found a lost princess. He watched her, kept her warm, made sure she was breathing. At night he slept outside as to not invade her privacy. On the tenth day, she awoke. She told him the wild tale of what had happened; while travelling from her home in the Viridian Labyrinth, a bolt of lightning struck right through her and she plummeted into the sea. Ganymede was delighted by her recounting and offered her a place in his home. She accepted.

Mirage did not seem to mind living in a ramshacle hut that smelled of seaweed. To her, it was a great adventure. But Ganymede wished he could give her more. She was so breathtakingly beautiful, and her eyes sparked like stars. She told him all about her life and her plans for the future. She taught him how to navigate and the names of all the constellations. She was his best and only friend.

Ganymede knew she had always wanted to go to the Starfall Isles, and he came up with a wild plan. He wanted to fly over the sea with her, and live with her together in the observatory. Mirage agreed happily. She wanted to leave as soon as possible. Ganymede hesitated for a moment. He wanted first, to ask her for his mate. But he decided it might wait until they reached their destination.

He had it all planned. As soon as they landed, he would ask her if she would take him. They would live together in the grand observatory, start a family, and study the stars for all their happy life. They spread their wings and lifted off together. Winds buffeted them from all sides. Rain poured down on them. Fog spread across the horizon. Ganymede worried, asked to turn back. But Mirage insisted they continue. The sky split open, and the night turned to fire. Angry claws reached down from the heavens and struck Mirage, right in the heart. This time there was no one to save her. She plummeted into the waves, dead before she hit the water.

Ganymede was broken. In a sorrowful daze, he turned back. It was a long time before he hit land.

The clan he met took him in, listened to his story, and gave him a home. He stares out at the stars and the sea, wishing to turn back, begging for another chance. Someday, perhaps, he will mend.
