Biography
In a fearful world of black and white, of bland grays and intermediate tones, Jax's vibrant colors were not welcome. They were not seen as something to be treasured, nor beautiful, not a respite from the sheets of monotone shades that made the landscape. Instead, he was viewed as an over saturated, painful thing. His scales glinted in the sharp daylight, sending scattered light across the earth and land. His home clan was fearful of him. He had no intentions to harm, but it would be so easy for a predator, a beastclan party, other dragons to see him, to see the clan. He was a beacon, a danger. And so one day, while he was still too young to understand what his family believed he had brought upon them, he awoke to claws and weapons and snarls. At his age, he had never seen this side of aggression, had never considered this facet of emotion. He had stared, dumbstruck, become why? Why would they do this to him? What had he done wrong? There was a flash of bared fangs from someone, who, minutes earlier, he would have claimed as family. And he was running, scrambling away, confused and disorientated, with no goal in mind, only a question. What did I do wrong?
Jax had come a long way since then. The life of a loner wasn't awful, now. There had been long nights spent shivering in the open, days of no food and aching wings, but he had made something of a home in the mountains. He had plenty of food, a nearby stream. A pile of books, and it was only a short flight away from the nearest clan. In the absence of company, he found solace in reading. It was refreshing to shed his life for a while and live another. He often flew to markets and clans to trade and purchase new novels, but the wary eyes of strangers sent him back to solitude.
He didn't resent his clan much anymore. He was older, he understood the perils of the world. It was terribly cruel and perhaps unnecessarily so, but he didn't have the energy to hate them. He thought. Apparently, there was some pent up emotion. Because upon seeing a large, monstrous yeti attacking a smaller wildclaw, something in him rekindles. It snarls and growls before lunging, and Jax relives each moment of his banishment in the time and space between the creature's fist and the wildclaw. And when the other dragon goes sprawling, unconscious, and the yeti begins to lumber forward for the kill, Jax is there, somehow between the two, in the fighting stance he had seen only in those who betrayed him. He was not a fighter, but his size was to his advantage, and a quick swipe with his spined tail sends the beast howling and lumbering away.
And somehow, the wildclaw lived. He had brought her back to his cave, because what else could he do? He poured through various books and tomes, trying to find anything on injuries or healing. She awakes soon enough, and quickly, too. She is on her feet, despite Jax's protests that all of his books had said rest was very important. She promptly announces her name was Isis, and with a fanged smirk, she asks if he wants to be her companion. And he says yes. Maybe because he's lonely, maybe because he's scared. But mostly, he is hoping for a second chance at what he never had.
