Maelstorm had been the third dragon to wander into newly founded moonbleder clan, and being the trickster at heart he went about his day finding ways to play pranks and get in trouble. However he hadn't been warned about what lurked in the ice under his talons until one day he ventured too deep into the hibernal caverns and struck his claws too deep into the ice. What was planned to be a harmless prank of throwing ice down someone's tunic turned into a horrible afternoon for Maelstorm, as he got corrupted by a shade he released from the frozen mass.

The trickster developed a short temper after the incident and slowly got more and more corrupted over the years. After having his first nest with his beloved mate, Horizon, he grew more patient and took care of his cursed hatchlings like a proper dragon should. He taught Nebulous all she needed to know about her inherited powers, and the corruption of the shade that has taken a few great dragons from the clan. Maelstorm told her stories of the Progeners of the clan back when it had a different name. Not too long ago however Maelstorm returned to the hibernal den where he fought valiantly against Lumi before the Gaoler ultimately sealed him up among the frozen walls, returning his shade to where it should have stayed, but Maelstorm was now trapped as well.

In his deep slumber he awaits the day when he can exact revenge on the dragons who judge the shade-touched dragons as a plight against dragon-kind.
