Biography
....
”You saw that move, didn’t you?” The shaken Pearlcatcher asked.
“Not at all, is there something the matter?” The Spiral answered, tilting her head as her wisps circled.
Hail neared the abandoned burrow carefully. In a distant past, a young dragon had once been born and belonged to the matriarch—a promising male Wildclaw. The air was thin with nothing more than a chill that made the Pearlcatcher’s back hunch with caution. Cobwebs of a thousand spiders spread across the tunnel where abandoned belongings lay scattered, tempting the Pearlcatcher to venture further into the hole.
The Pearlcatcher hunched himself, causing his murky mane to drag across the flesh-like earth—making him shiver from disgust. In the far back of the burrow, he could make out a figure in the deceiving darkness. The figure before him was small, nearly portable by claw if he were a tad bit bigger himself. The wings of the unknown were spread, patched and stitched where needles pricked out with several torn threads hanging loosely from the incoming breeze.
A voice broke the silence, causing the Pearlcatcher to pull-up his head and comically bang his horn across the roof of the burrow.
“Hail, what is it that you see?” The blind Spiral inquired, leaning her head in at the entrance. She couldn’t see but she could sense an unwelcoming presence, one that didn’t belong in a patched-up body. “Is there anything that we may need?”
Hail pulled back after the sudden fright, if only to hear rustling. Instinctively, the Pearlcatcher turned his attention to the figure where it hadn’t moved—only that now its cruel green button eyes were staring right back at him. Whether he had caused a disruption for the amenities or not, it was uncertain. The Pearlcatcher reversed furthermore as a beckoning urge to run washed over him—quickening his heartbeat as he turned his back on the silhouette.
“No. No there’s nothing at all.” Hail shook his head until rustling rang at the back of his ears. It wasn’t his dragging mane nor was it his own claws digging into the raw ground. He earned the courage to turnaround.
Strings poked out with a thousand ghastly arms emitting from a plush’s body, the figure was sitting on its hind legs with his arms tucked in and his wings leaning forward. Hail was reluctant to linger, if only as he noticed that the figure’s head was limp and lifeless—laying on the ground with buttoned eyes staring at him.
Hail reared up, grabbing his pearl firmly as he began to turn over to the Spiral. Soothsayer waited just beyond, hearing no sound of her mate. The female Spiral tensed up as her cowls chanted with glistening patterns—there was someone else here and the both of them had disturbed its peace. After a sudden fear that the worst had happened, the Pearlcatcher emerged from the abyss with spiralling eyes that couldn’t tell what he had seen or heard. The doll had spoken to him where plentiful threads acted like teeth and single thin-like strip of ribbon was its tongue. It had no strength to lift its head, only did its body sit upright—almost making it seem headless. He knew better than to linger and that’s when the Spiral’s voice snapped the male out of his daze.
“What was it that you saw?”
“It was moving...” The Pearlcatcher muttered.
