Biography
Kaleia - the animal companion and familiar ambassador
Hopscotch - Kaleia found her injured and nursed her back to health. Her little companion has been a warm friend on her shoulder ever since.
Vista: Rainsong Jungle, Scene: Tropical Cove
Animal Companion Lore:
My Clan absolutely loves animals, and are extremely strict towards the safety of any animal companions. For general safety, it is recommended that any animals considered a companion animal keep some form of tag or collar for identification, and on Clan grounds there is a strict no hunting rule.
Adoption of animals depends entirely on the dragon themselves. The Clan itself is a known safe haven for dragons from all walks of life, and this applies to their animals, familiars and all companion creatures that come on to the main Clan grounds and homesteads. Hurting, stealing or any negative action is punishable by exile from Clan boundaries. As the Clan homes are located both above water and below the ocean, there is no limitation on what creatures can join the Clan, and all are actively invited to join.

Familiars and animal companions have some slight differences within the clan. Animal companions for the most part are spoiled - they are not typically expected to contribute if they don't want to, and are often simply treated the way we might treat a lap dog. Treatment of course is expected to be good - anyone caught treating an animal or familiar poorly will receive only one warning, a second time gets you exiled from the Clan. A dragon can spoil their animal companion however they deem fit, and most do!
Familiars on the other hand, especially with their ability to communicate well with dragons, are seen a little higher in comparison to animals (kind of like in Harry potter where a magical creature wouldn't be classified on the same level as a wizard's familiar). Familiars are also allowed to simply lounge about if they wish, but more often then not they are seen helping their companion and helping the Clan run as it needs. You can often see a dragon and their familiar working at the same jobs or running the same errands, such as how many lightning familiars will enjoy working at the Clan's main power plant.
Familiars and animal companions are also expected to interact well with each other. A dragon can have both, of course. They don't all have to get along, that's unrealistic, but there shouldn't be any crazy scuffles or anything like that. They do usually get along, and both parties are good about leaving the other alone if they aren't fond of one another.
