Aphonia

When Aphonia first tumbled out of his egg, his parents tried to get his attention. He ignored them initially, in favor of other things. His parents worried maybe he was blind like one of his older brothers, but waving enough proved that no, he definitely wasn't blind. It took a little bit longer before they realized what the problem was: Aphonia was deaf. He couldn't hear at all.

It was a struggle to try to communicate with him. He didn't respond very well at first to any attempts at communication, preferring to chase bugs or bite his sister's tail. When he got a bit older, they started getting him to work on things. He eventually started learning sign language, and they got him to chirp when he wanted someone's attention. He even learned to read and write! The most he ever speaks is when he's making happy little noises of sorts as he's hanging out all by himself. He's the noisiest when he's writing or drawing, just mumbling little noises. It seems to make him happy, so the others usually just pat him on the head and let him keep doing it. It doesn't really bother anyone.
