Biography
owner and manager of the gatherers' guild
head of the minerals, metals, and gemstones department
Palante is a...peculiar dragon, with even more peculiar inclinations. The founder and current leader of the Gatherers' Guild, Palante is not all that interested in the useful service provided by her creation. Rather, she revels in the ability to serve as a pseudo-ruler to her small group of busy workers. The Guild runs much like a kingdom in miniature, with a complex political system comprised of department heads and their ultimate overlord, Lady Palante herself. The Guild is hardly large enough to warrant such a messy bureaucratic maze of titles, departments, and specialties, and yet the system has only grown more tangled as more dragons join to offer their unique skills. Despite having less than two-dozen members at present, the Guild's system of organization is so gnarled that one member is responsible for managing its affairs full-time.
This pet project of Palante's came to be through the sheer luck of life. As Palante matured, she came to possess an unusual affinity for gold. Able to attract and shape any nearby gold at will, Palante easily came by the sort of coin necessary to purchase and develop a substantial portion of Thunder Hollow Proper's dockside real-estate. All it took was a bit of time to rest and recuperate between bouts of "mining" for the Gatherers' Guild to come into existence, and the leftovers from Palante's unorthodox magical exercise were used to hire the first few specialists to the Guild's cause.
Though the Guild was founded more from Palante's desire to manage others' lives, one must still admit that the core idea of the place warrants that she must have some concern and empathy for Guild recruits. Those who come to the clan without a penny to their name are happily welcomed into the Guild's expansive halls the moment they come knocking. For some menial labor in their area of interest, a dragon can earn a substantial wage and get themselves off the ground. Palante's powers of aurumancy mean that she places little personal value on gold. Any dragon willing to put up with her antics will find themselves lavishly rewarded for the trouble, and the social connections made through the Guild are often a new member's first step to becoming fully integrated into Thunder Hollow.
Beneath the commanding veneer, Palante truly does have others' best interests in mind. Her love for organization and management stems from an innate wish to create a system in which everyone thrives. The innumerable departments of the Guild reflect her ideas for keeping her little microcosm in smooth working order, and the Guild's cozy accommodations show that she does understand what others want and need in life. She just has a funny way of expressing her passions, and that makes it very easy for others to misjudge her true intentions. It isn't about the sheer idea of power or control for Palante; it's about the ability to make things functional and helpful. And also the authority necessary to wear a pretty crown and wave around a scepter on occasion.
Theta is one of Palante's closest friends outside the Guild. The Gaoler's efforts to organize those of her breed who want to retain the rigidly structured lifestyle for which they are known mirror Palante's own, and the two often collaborate to achieve similar goals. Theta visits the Guild regularly to assess its current projects and assign some of her Gaolers to them.
Hiro is Palante's trusted right-hand man, the dragon responsible for keeping track of the complex systems Palante establishes and suggesting ways to make them work better together. He is everything Palante could ever want in an advisor: keen, devoted, and deferential. It is rare for one to be seen without the other; they are always chatting and scheming when Palante is not occupied by her accessory role as the Head of the Minerals, Metals, and Gemstones Department.
Sabre is one of Palante's star recruits and the lead acquisitions expert for any cases not covered by the Guild's many departments. Though the two don't have a substantial bond, Sabre is Palante's greatest "weapon" and someone Palante trusts immensely to do whatever needs doing.
