Biography

Scyldi
The Shield

Scyldi was barely adolescent, just coming into her true power, when her clan received a call for help: the Wide Sky clan, a long-time ally of hers, was sending out a nearly hopeless request for a dragon with the goat eyes of an innate protector to come and live with them, for they had a dragon who had been born with many eyes, weak to the voices of the Worldsea, and he needed help. It would be a position that could never be vacated, for this wildclaw would need protection for the rest of his life.

Without hesitation, Scyldi volunteered. Even she couldn't properly explain why, but she felt like she needed to. She simply had to do it.

When she left the Sea of a Thousand Currents, she took with her a protective charm from one of the Choir members, Corvus, and she took with her a young veilspun named Ankyra, who wanted to help. She traveled to the Windswept Plateau and was welcomed into the Wide Sky clan with open wings. She didn't want to wait, though - this poor wildclaw had suffered enough, she heard, as his distraught father told her everything that had happened to poor Luna. He was a wreck, and the clan had been close to condemning him to a life of slumber until he died. Scyldi was horrified, though given some of the wounds on the dragons who had hunted him down, she understood. But she was here now - no need for those kinds of drastic measures.

She demanded they free Luna as soon as possible, and so they did. Scyldi shielded the area, and they brought him out of stasis. When he woke, he was terrified and confused, and only Duskrunner could persuade him not to cower in the back of the caverns, lashing out at anyone who got too close. Once Duskrunner made it over to him, Scyldi and Ankyra were allowed to approach, and when Duskrunner treated them as friends, Luna did not attack them.

Scyldi wanted to weep seeing how afraid he was. Immediately she began to comfort him as she would a younger sibling, and he realized she was here to help. From then on, he stuck to her and Ankyra, as well as his father, jumping at sudden sounds.

Quickly it became apparent that he couldn't go by the name Luna. It gave him fits when he heard it, and sometimes reduced him to a shaky ball of feathers on the floor, so they helped him choose a new one, which took weeks, for first he had to learn how to speak. Duskrunner was surprisingly helpful during this process, patient and kind to his son. Scyldi spent hours teaching the many-eyed wildclaw different words and phrases, and finally he chose a name for himself: Actias.

Now, Scyldi spends her days with Actias, keeping him safe. They cannot be apart, for if they are, her shielding could fail. Sometimes it does anyway, when the Worldsea is particularly powerful, and then Ankyra must control Actias until Scyldi can strengthen her barriers. She has to console him after this, as he is beyond upset at the circumstances; he hates being controlled more than anything else. Scyldi, with Actias' permission, gave him several passive enchantments to block out any magic that attempts to control him, so the only dragon who can do so is Ankyra through his natural veilspun abilities.

Scyldi views Actias as a younger sibling and ward, despite the fact that he's much older than she is, and her urge to protect him is as strong as any guardian's. She never leaves his side, and every time he walks or acts freely, she feels joy and pride.

Most of her activities are dictated by the fact that she must spend her time around Actias, but she still has her hobbies of choice. Scyldi is always trying to hone her magical abilities, and additionally, loves to craft small statues out of pieces of discarded metal and stone and other parts of projects dragons would otherwise get rid of. She gives them away as little lair decorations, and they are surprisingly popular.
