Biography
Glyph keeps to herself, largely, as she does not fit in well with most of the others. She is one of the few Pearlcatchers in the lair and she is dimly aware that most of the dragons make fun of her lack of intelligence behind her back. Glyph commonly spends her days with the dragon whose name is only a sound, the one Carl hatched. He does not fit in either, but at least he and Glyph have each other for company.
Glyph originally joined the clan as the mate of Carl. They were reasonably happy at first, but after a time Carl grew distant. It came to Glyph's attention that Carl had mated with another dragon. Though he tried to tell her that he'd only done it to cement their own position in the clan, Glyph fell on him with a fury and refused any further matings with him. It was nearly enough to drive Carl completely out of the clan, but to Bankalt's dismay, the vote to cast Carl out failed by a slim margin. Gyatso, disgusted by this treatment of his mother, left the clan in protest and many of his friends went with him.
Glyph sought permission to find a new mate, to make up for Carl's actions. Though the permission was granted, her heart was not in it, for she had loved Carl, and did not truly desire to mate with another. Instead, she felt the need to reinvent herself, to rise above it all. Carl's actions would not define her. Nobody's actions would define her. She refused to be an object of pity. Though she was never going to be the smartest dragon in the clan, she could be the hardest working. She threw herself into learning to weave. It was not easy. At times, she despaired of her ability. But she did not give up, and gradually her efforts started to produce serviceable cloth. Still this was not enough for her, and she continued to work, until her cloth was not just adequate, but outstanding, and often was chosen to outfit the clan leaders and council members.
After some time had passed, Glyph became interested in a dragon newly joined to the clan, Takatora the fighter. She brought him into her nest with her, but their mating failed to produce an egg. Glyph sought advice from the dragon whose name was a sound, knowing that he often dabbled in alchemy. The dragon whose name is the sound a lightsaber makes agreed to make a potion for Glyph and Takatora, to increase their chances of a successful mating. Though Glyph was excited, Takatora was extremely suspicious. They fought, but in the end, Glyph prevailed, and Takatora agreed to try to artificially augment their egg production, before anyone else could notice the problem and make an issue of it before the council.
