She lurked where the darkness was thickest, her world the blackest of shadows. Ancient tales warned of her presence, and wise dragons listened. They avoided the inky blackness when the night sky was cloudy, they strayed far from the abyss of deep caverns where sunlight could not reach. For this was the domain of the Void.

The tales of Void’s existence were no mere rumors. She appeared only in utter darkness, not quite alive, but some being more sinister than ghost or spirit. Yes, she was very much alive, and she was also… hungry. A never-ending hunger gnawed within, demanding to sated. And there was only one thing that satisfied that yearning: souls.

Dragons that fell prey to Void’s hunger wandered the world with cloudy eyes, never speaking, never seeing, never hearing. Technically, their bodies were still living, but there was no fire of life within that shell of flesh. Their souls devoured, it was only a matter of time before Void’s victims perished; either succumbing to the elements or perhaps eaten by some other monster ready to take advantage of an easy meal.

But no matter how many souls she consumed, no matter how many thousands fell victim to her over the centuries, her job was never complete. For there was always more to devour…. and Void was ravenous.
