Long ago, Dust Rest was full of canals and waterways, and those canals were teaming with fish. It was common for dragons to spend many of their days angling in the canals, perching along the rails of the great bridges, and feasting upon fresh or well smoked strips of whatever bounty was to be had that day.

One night, two fishers were fishing on the highest bridge as the sun slowly sank beneath the horizon. They noticed that they were catching many more fish than usual, and so they fished and fished, filling their baskets to the brim and then some. When their baskets became almost too heavy to lift, they decided this was a good time to return to their clan’s dwelling. Just as they were about to leave, they heard an eerie, terrible voice come up from the canal: “Oiteke!”

Both dragons turned and fled from the canal, one of them dropping his basket and the other taking his basket with him. The dragon who dropped his basket ran all the way back to his clan’s home and piled up boulders into the doorway, sealing it up quite thoroughly. The other dragon did not have a chance. Weighed down by his great pile of fish...
He turned his face to look back at the eerie specter as he plugged on slowly with the sopping basket.
He did not get very far —

A ghostly set of claws rose up out of the canal and dragged him down into the water.
He was never seen again.
