Biography
You hear his voice echoing on the kind of moonless nights in stories. Fog drifts lazily across the ground, seeming to grasp at you as it swirls. Despite the darkness, you seem to see the faintest blue glow illuminating the tall, bony trees and thorn-entangled ground.
Out of the darkness, you hear a low sound, too quiet to distinguish whether it is actually real or just the whisper of your heart pounding in your ears.
Are you lost?
You wait to hear it again, but it doesn't return. Just imagination then. The mist begins to change color, from ultramarine to a deep purple; again, so close of shade it's impossible to tell if it's just imagination. Shadows shift as you move, appearing to flicker through the brambles.
Not quite friend, but maybe not an enemy, not an enemy, not an enemy?
Okay, now that's just strange. The sound echoes faintly, and you can't figure out exactly what you've heard. Doesn't help that it makes no sense. Friend of what? Enemy of what? It's just a little too... different... of a message to attribute to imagination. You slowly turn a circle, scanning carefully for something. You're not sure what...
You think you've completed a circle by now, but you can't quite tell. Maybe it was a mistake to turn around... now you can't remember how you got here. In the darkness, the fog plays tricks on you, turning the woods into a dull kaleidoscope, the same on every side. Shadows flicker. How can they? There's no light. What's happening? It's as though there's a lantern at your feet, dimmed and fading.
Don't be afraid, traveler... the shadows won't hurt you.
No one quite knows how this story ends; the experience seems to change depending on who is lost. Blue light, a small guide, brambles shifting to envelop the wanderer in a protective shield or enclose them in a sort of cage... or sometimes, a silence that lasts until the morning, 'til the faint gilded sunlight burns through the fog and dispels the shadow of night. Regardless, the voice never reveals itself. It hides in shadows and thorns, blending seamlessly with the night it inhabits.

The shadows won't hurt you...
Because they've already swallowed me. I've welcomed them so you won't have to.
