Being an outcast isn't always bad. It's perfect for introverts - for people who want to be left alone. Unfortunately, it's only a good thing when one chooses it. Grissaia did not.

She was tall. Graceful. She walked as if blessed by a willow tree. She could have been a model, if not for her voice. It was deep. Disgusting. It snapped and cracked like branches in a storm. They called her a man. Others called her demonic. And she was outcast, just like that.

Learning to speak through books with moving pictures, Grissaia's life regained some sense of normalcy. She was able to interact with others and not be called a witch. It's how she met her partner, who is the only one to hear her voice and not run away. Penny is everything to her for that reason alone.
