Alchemystery is a vain Bogsneak, unusually fastidious about her lair to keep her iridescent scales looking their best. Her standards for a handsome mate are equally high - so high that she never finds one acceptable. She focuses on her passion for alchemical experimentation instead. It is deeply satisfying to her to begin the same basic formula over and over, then adding different ingredients in varying proportions each time and recording the results. The best of all is when her cauldron turns out something unexpected and lively, because then she has an exciting new direction for her investigations.
Alchemystery does not like spending time around other dragons. Most of her communication is in letters sent to fellow alchemists, discussing each other's latest discoveries and hopes for their next projects. Her current clanmates, however, are dismayed at the regular appearance of small unnatural things that they've found wandering the territory since she moved in.
But not quite all of them.
Curious hatchlings began to creep into her lair, to stare at the bright bubbling concoctions and dare each other to approach her, to see if they'd be turned into a scaly toad. Alchemystery was aware of them, of course, but found she didn't mind having the hatchlings around the way she did their parents. Their rapt attention was even gratifying.
But she didn't want them to stick their claws in any of her projects - and certainly not to lick anything! So when they became more confident in exploring her work space of wonders, she began making up gruesome stories to tell them, of what happened to hatchlings who were too curious and stuck their noses in what they shouldn't. The lucky ones got turned into slimes and snakes. Really.
Coming up with new stories turned out to be a fun way to pass the time between visits, while she was waiting for potions to boil. For extra inspiration, she has begun borrowing books from the lair's library, the thick volumes that the little ones are probably too restless to sit and read for themselves. She does embellish tales from history and myth now and then, for variety, but what really draws them is the scary ones, that will make them huddle in a group under blankets when they get home again. In case the giant acid-dripping skeleton serthis really was lurking nearby.
