Hawk looked up at Lily, eyes twinkling in the dusky light.
Lily flicked her tail, fidgeting with her thin golden bracelet.
"I-uhhh I wanted to talk to you. Well.....I-I like you Hawk. You've always been a great friend and...." she buried her face in her paws, blushing like mad.
Hawk awkwardly put his wing around her, tail coiling around himself worriedly.
"Uh.....you're great too Lily. I-I like you too. Sorry about.....well, not making the first move. I guess I'm not as good at romance." he chuckled weakly.
Lily laughed and coiled her tail around him, leaning into his fluffy feathers.
"Well, why don't we just enjoy the sunset? We'll work on the little details later."
"I'm down with that." Hawk smiled, pulling a picnic basket out from behind him and passing her a sandwich.

Cashmere pulled on Holly's claws.
"Come on Holly! We haven to go now, please!"
The reddish gaoler shook her fluffy head worriedly. She kept constantly checking over her shoulder.
"Cashmere, you have to go, now! If my parent's catch you, you'll be tied to a boat and sent out towards a storm before dawn! You have to run home! I'll meet with you later!"
"Don't you get it Holly?! They already know about our meeting place! We have to find a new place to meet and everything! We have to run away now! Before you're married off to fancy-pants Tinsel!"
Holly shook her head, a tears blossoming in her eyes.
"They're my family. I cant leave. I do love you Cashmere, but I cant abandon them. Maybe I can talk to them......."
Cashmere opened his mouth to respond, but a loud growling caused him to stop. A pack of infestation hounds had cornered them. The collars branded with Holly's father's crest glinted darkly in the moonlight.
"Run Cashmere! RUN!" Holly cried, pulling Cashmere into a tight hug before pushing him over the hounds and into the forest, "Stay safe my love, good luck!"

Mila didn’t need a mate, no way. She was a strong and confident journalist, recording the plague infested wastelands with expert, perfectly manicured claws.
But that was before she met him.
The huge, obsidian-black imperial with the most beautiful, saddened eyes.
He threatened to kill her if she spoke his secret, led anyone to his lair, but she couldn’t help glancing over her shoulder towards the setting sun, towards the shade-claimed dragon who made her feel like bubbles were ballooning in her chest, with his sad eyes that wished things could be different. She yearned to speak to him, to befriend him, maybe.......even love him, but the shade had already taken his heart.
What could be left for her?

Julia flicked her tail grumpily as she looked up at the hopeful guardian.
“No.” She grumbled for the thousandth time.
“I don’t need a mate, I just want to keep working on my novel. I’m to be the best writer in all of Sorineth, and I can’t do that if a mopey guardian’s riding round on my tail, whining for attention.”
“But, you’re my charge! I have to protect you! Just......give me a chance?” Tide protested, eyes widening with sadness, though hope still flickered weakly in them.
“NO!” Julia snapped, with a bit too much venom in her voice as she turned to walk away. As she reached the entrance to her house, she looked back at the large shape meandering sadly away and felt a strange stirring in her chest. No, she was not going to fall for him, she scolded herself. She had a plan, a destiny! And some guardian wasn’t going to change it.
But why couldn’t she get rid of the mushy, sad feeling in her chest?
