The apocalypse was never friendly however the weather usually was. Today, however, a huge thunderstorm had come, so intense that the clan could hear it even in their underground bunker. Cosmo was going to the scheduled meeting wit the other flight reps, however the weather was becoming concerning. After a few grumbles and a few flickering lights Cosmo finally arrived. The others were gathered around a wall, the one that showed the power of the protection runes.
"Is somethings wrong?" Cosmo asked curiously as he came over to the group.
Imriel, the lightning rep, turned towards Cosmo with a worried expression.
"The storm might be interfering with the rune. The power keeps lowering before stabilizing, which is why the lights keeps dropping."
Cosmo came to look, the rune dropped and the lights flickered as he did; a frown came over him.
"What do we do about this? If the lightning rune falls our defenses will be weakened, not to mention that we won't have any lights."
Imriel continued looking at the rune.
"I don't know how to fix it Cosmo. I really do-" She was cut off by the lights flickering before turning out. All heads turned towards the lightning rune which was no longer glowing.
"It... It's out of power..." Imriel said with horror.
All of a sudden the lights came back on, brighter than ever. The rune, was also brighter, it could have spurted electricity at this point. Confusion filled the rep's eyes.
"Why did the lights turn back on?" a curious Inferno chirped.
"I-I don't know." Imriel said. "It sounds like the storm has stopped though, should we go up and check?" A nod of agreement passed through the reps and one by one they headed towards the surface.
On the tree that held the lightning rune there were two tiny clawprints, they seemed to be burned into the trunk.
"H-Hatchling clawprints?" Inferno said s he examined them. "Is this why the ruins went out?"
"Yes, but I am also the reason it surged to the power that it is at now." A small pearlcatcher came out from behind the tree, her eyes closed.
"You did that? How?" Imriel said.
"Why wouldn't I be able to?" The hatchling said, opening her eyes. Bolts of electricity came out of them, lacing her face.
Murmurs went through the reps, after all this was the first primal they had ever seen.
"Primals can do that? Even as hatchlings?" Imriel said.
"No." The pearlcatcher said, smiling. "Primals can't do what I did."
Confusion crossed Imriel's face.
"But... Aren't you a primal?"
"I am not. I'm not even a dragon."
The confusion among the group intensified.
"Then what are you?" Cosmo asked with little emotion to his voice.
"I am the spirit of lightning, essence of the very element that you represent." She said, directing the last part towards Imriel. "I'm older than that deity you think controls that element. I came first."
"Why should we believe you? You could just be a hatchling looking for some laughs." Cosmo said, once again cold and emotionless.
"Your rune is supercharged, no?" The pearlcatcher said. "If that's not enough proof for you the others will be here soon, then you will see."
"Others?"
"Yes. The other spirits, the other elements. They'll arrive soon. Then you'll see what we are, you'll see our power." A small smile traced the hatchling's face.
