Life at the Observatory was, more so than anything else, dull. Lectures and scribbling and silence, save for the chanting somewhere deep in the structure. Isabela never did much care for it, preferring to spend her time exploring the shores of the Isles, listening to the waves and reading up on Sornieth's geography. She couldn't help but wonder what life was like beyond the sea.

She decided to leave home instead of continuing her studies, much to her parents' dismay, and made her first journey across the sea to Dragonhome. There, she met Reckless, a dragon rather true to her name, who had a passion for old tales and legends. The two clicked immediately and continued their travels together, exchanging stories of all kinds of hidden treasures in Sornieth.

While traversing the lands, they stuck to the shores - having both grown up near the sea, they were hesitant to abandon it. An idea struck Isabela one night and she immediately roused Reckless to tell her about the dream she'd just had about a band of pirates. They could do it too. The prospect excited them both greatly.

They made their temporary home in the Ashfall Waste, gathering materials and equipment. It was a big project, but the two dragons worked with passion. They would sail across the Sea of a Thousand Currents, granting them access to several different flight territories packed with exotic locations and treasures.

THE HYDRA

____It was while wandering the beach caves of the Ashfall Appex that Isabela found herself face to face with a pair of monstrous eyes. Make that three pairs - she had come across a Hydra. She reached for her cutlass to defend herself, but the creature did not attack, merely stared at her, as though observing, thinking. She watched its long tail slither up the walls and managed to dodge the falling stalactites just in time. The Hydra hissed and opened its jaws. Isabela braced herself for a magical attack, but all that shot out were a few sparks. No wonder, she thought. It had no steam left. Was it stuck in there? It made no attempts to move, just laid its heads on the ground. It was a sad sight, not one Isabela could stand. She left for the shore and came back a bit later with a net full of fish. The Hydra took a long look at her and the fish. Finally, it dove in, keeping one head trained on her, but it allowed her now to walk around and have a look at it. It was a magnificent creature in an unfortunate situation. She realised then that it was the Hydra's great cunning and intellect that had kept it alive, an injury to its spine having rendered it unable to move.

____They would help each other, she decided, returning to Reckless with an idea formed in her head. They continued with the construction of their ship, but had moved it to the cave, to the Hydra. It was confused and wary at first, but was quick to catch on. Wood was infused with scales using various crystals from Earth and Arcane, laced together with magic as though they were silk. A powerful spell, stolen from the Observatory's library, to seal the deal. The magic would continue to flow through the creation for many years without needing to be renewed. With everything in place, the creature roared and, using the Arcane energy, broke free of the cave and headed for the sea with the two dragon on board. A living ship, the likes of which Sornieth had never seen. The Canny Hydra was born.
