Biography

Dagur

Bookeeper/Historian/

"The books we read answer questions we didn't even know existed."
Scroll Case
Aged Tome
Battered Book of Fables

A sunset coloured dragon peers down at a young Pearlcatcher from behind bushy eyebrows. His beard and eyebrows are long and braided at the ends, revealing his ripe age that is otherwise masked by a muscular, thick body and bright eyes. He smiles at the junior dragon as he run his talon gently over the thinning edge of a scroll encased in a rich-looking scroll case. The young dragon is not quite an adult and not quite a hatchling; she is somewhere in the middle between the age that aches for maturity and the age that longs for childhood. The sunset dragon open the scroll doesn't cough as dust puffs into the air. Years of being in musty libraries have desensitised his lungs, and he has heavy, rattling breathing as proof. His young apprentice coughs violently and bats her wings in an effort to keep the dust out of her nose. The elder dragon chuckles as she snorts more dust up her nose. After the coughing spell has passed his arches his bushy neck over the scroll and points to a few words. His apprentice eagerly writes what he says, hanging on to his every word. The old dragon's scales are duller than they could be; years of dust and wear have made then more of a coppery red than the pinkish-orange that they were in his youth. Faint scars mar his serpentine body from battles long past, and several of his gembond scales have simply popped off. His voice rumbles through the massive library, built to be large because of his large size. His tail curls down several aisles and his head alone is half the size of his Pearlcatcher apprentice. He breathes slowly, confident in his wisdom and cautious of his apprentice's eagerness. Too eager, and she will miss the beauty of the words. He points to a mistake in her grammar and she hastily corrects it. He smiles. There is nothing he loves more than seeing young dragons grow into the wisdom he knows they have, deep inside. He too, was young once...but the pain of his youth has dulled over the passing of time. Most of it.

Dagur is the oldest dragon in the lair. He is the scroll keeper with his mate Liri, and the library is his haven. Dagur rarely leaves the library; he reads the thousand upon thousands of scrolls. There is a rumor among the hatchlings that he has read every one of them. That, of course is not true, but it keeps the hatchlings in awe of their elder, so no one tells them any different. No one really knows about his past, only that it is dark and that he was a ferocious warrior in his day. Vayga was very happy to invite him into the clan; his boundless wisdom would is very useful. Dagur is one of the chief advisors to Vayga and holds a high position in the clan. He is respected by all, and revered by all. Dagur loves his mate Liri very much, even though he had hatchlings with another dragon in his youth. But to ask him about his past mate would be to unearth the past that he has so deeply buried, and maybe to unearth an edge to Dagur, buried underneath the dust, scrolls and kindness.
