Biography

Saphie, while not totally blind like her friend Amaretto, has had very poor vision from a very young age due to cataracts developing on her eyes. They make her eyes look milky and cloudy, turning them into an unusual light lavender colour for a Shadow dragon.

Saphie still has some ways of getting around just fine, even if her eyesight is poor! She has prescription glasses to clear up her vision some, a walking cane, and worst case scenario, she can rely on her ability to sense vibrations through the bone-like structures covering her body. Her girlfriend, Gemhaven, is also always willing to lend her a shoulder.

From Berks Eye Physicians and Surgeons:

"Congenital cataracts is a rare form of the disease that babies are either born with or develop shortly after birth. If undetected, congenital cataracts can lead to amblyopia, or lazy eye, especially when cataracts is only present in one eye or bigger in one eye than the other.

Early stages of cataracts can be managed with prescription eyewear. However, as a cataract grows and vision worsens, it must be surgically extracted."
