Penance knew he was destined for greatness. His unorthodox ability of foreseeing the time of a dragon’s death made him both coveted and feared in the clan of Septicemia. Not only does he see the time of the dragon’s demise, Penance claims to also be able to predict the cause as well, never mind whether or not this can be proved.

Due to his existence as a harbinger, Penance carries himself very well and despises everyone else who dares denounce how important his ability is to the clan. When dragons try to make small talk with him, he quickly dismisses them as ‘unimportant’ and ‘interference's to his most important business’.
Sometimes, hatchlings disappear with Penance's appearance in the dead of the night, seemingly enthralled by his stories of death and decay- most are never seen again, and when asked, Penance merely shrugs and states that they ‘were borrowed willingly by him’. Interesting as such a ‘phenomenon’ is, the dragon Seraffo seems to never run out of subjects to experiment upon, and dragons in the clan have widely speculated the link between this oddity as well as Penance's incredible ability to make hatchlings ‘disappear’.

As the clan moved from Plague to Fire, Penance's ability fell into disuse with the new clan leaders, and nowadays, he is a small time storyteller that whisper ominous omens to random dragons who are willing to stop and listen to what could be easily dismissed as a mad dragon’s ramblings. Due to his prior services within the clan when they were Plague, it seems as though the current leaders continue to tolerate him, as much as their patience run thin with his prophecies. Penance is never discouraged- and hatchlings continue to disappear into the night as if willed to vanish, the only sign of any foul play being the sinister twinkle in the hooded Ridgeback’s eye...
