FOGBEASTS

Veilborne Ebon Myna Variant

Fogbeasts are a branch of Ebon Mynas that have evolved in the harsh environment of the Veiled Isles.
Slightly bigger than the average Feral Umbral Myna, these creatures have been touched for generations by the ever-present influence of the void, further amplifying their abilities and intellect. This change manifests in their lack of dependency on Eboncrows, void magics replacing the need for a Crow's viral touch and accelerating the development of their viral abilities drastically.
As such, they are capable of mimicking and stealing the voices of their victims, but furthermore, due to the darkness within them, they have developed a unique way of harnessing these capacities for their hunt:
Tapping into the memory of their target through dark magics, and mimicking the voice of a loved one in a 'panicked' distress call.
Using their misty grey fog and partial cloaking, they enhance the illusion further, and pretend to be the one who's voice they copied to lure their next meal right towards their hungry maws.
These newfound abilities do not come without cost. Their appetite for flesh and magic is ravenous, requiring a fair amount to keep their void affliction from consuming them instead.
Naturally, this makes mages and other magical creatures a favourite among their kind.
Despite their enlarged size, they sport hardly more muscle than a regular Feral Umbral, but retain their ability to deflect magic projectiles.. or consume them on contact to fuel themselves.

Thus far only one individual has proven to be capable of 'taming' Fogbeasts, and they are otherwise only found in the wild reaches of the Veiled Isles, scarcely wandering out unlike their feathered competitors.

This particular individual seems to be the runt of a litter, deep scarring across it's small body telling the tale of their unlikely survival.
