Oakfawn was first to hatch. His parents were sleeping nearby. It was cold that night, his fur wasn’t dry yet. He was cold from head to tailtip. He crawled on over to his mother and laid beside her soft, warm, coat and fell asleep. He was awakened by a crackling noise. One similar to what he did himself. He opened his eyes, and looked. There, was a small Mirror hatchling. It looked similar to father, but not quite. The Mirror saw the Tundra beside mother and giggled happily. The parents woke to find 2 of 4 children hatched.
...
Hours has passed since Oakfawn hatched, he had already dreamed of what he wanted to be. He thought of serving the Shadowbinder, the Icewarden, the Flamecaller. Every deity he wanted to serve. His mother brought Oakfawn a pencil and scroll. She told him to draw what he wanted to look like when he was older. Dr. Shadow came to see the hatchlings, just as she does every time some dragon hatches. She told the tundra that she looked like him when she was younger. No patterns. She said it was not a bad thing, it’s just that dragons without patterns are the perfect sheet that could have so many possiblilities. “You could have any pattern you want if you go for it.” She said. Oakfawn started drawing what he saw around the village. Coatls were his favorite. They looked majestic with all their feathers and calm eyes. Dr. Shadow advised the hatchling to draw himself with patterns first, then draw another breed. Oakfawn did. Dr. Shadow and the parents couldn’t completely make out what he drew, so they brought in dragons for a mini-matching game. It was quite fun for the little tundra who pointed at things that matched his drawing. He settled on the following:
...
Oakfawn wanted to leave the village, just like his brothers and sister. He ventured out one night, searching to hopefully fulfill at least one of his dreams or a part of one. Wether to serve a deity, or have genes, Shadowbinder knows.
