It was a deceptively cold afternoon, the chilling October wind sending tufts of leaves billowing around his feet. Sparks of golden orange against dark, dark fur. His coat had grown thicker this month. There was a new shape straining behind his skin, stretching into a creature that spent the rest of the year in hibernation, waiting to emerge. His claws were sharper, his teeth protruded fiercely from salivating jaws. Green eyes piercing the darkness on nights where he would hunt, restlessly. Klaus did not shiver - he barely felt the howling wind at all. His eyes were on the horizon, at the fading glow that was disappearing, second by second, as the sun set. Until color was stripped away even from the leaves at his feet. During the rest of the year, he felt as the forest - utterly removed of color. He followed his Clan, dutifully hunting and collecting food, but his mind was empty. There were no thoughts, no pleasures, and no dreams to disrupt the gray reality that followed hour after hour after hour. He mindlessly droned forward, waiting for the day when his second self would emerge. October 1st, the first of a month of himself. He came to life in the chilling October breeze; the passion ignited within him at night, even as the rest of the world was stripped of color. Klaus, however, would be filled anew with a pulsing, violent power. I am not like the other dragons anymore. Now I am free. Tonight was All Hallows, Samhain, Halloween. He could see the outline of the full moon kissing the darkening sky, and felt a shudder of anticipation flush through his body. The moon called to him, teasing against the darkness, like a blushing lover. And in return, he felt his body change - the second self bursting freshly through his skin, the old self forgotten entirely for just one night. Tonight he would be Himself, the raw, dark animal that hibernated so dutifully for the rest of the year. It had one month to play, and tonight would be the final event, the tour de force of his awakening. When darkness finally fell, his hulking form disappeared into the shadows. There was need of a feast for his last night, a bloody celebration of his true self. One that he could cling to, from the back of his mind, when he had to be hidden once more. |
But the October chill had other plans. There, beneath the moonlight, his hunting brought him to another dark silhouette, beautifully outlined by white. Her green eyes dashes of peridot against the shadowy backdrop. The hunger leapt inside his chest, intensifying his desire to feed. But there was something else there now as well - a carnal, animal longing for the creature in front of him. This beautiful, horrible dragon, as twisted as he was by the will of October. He could see the same desires reflected in her piercing gaze. A low growl came from the other dragon’s throat, choked by a thick mass of fur. She drew to her full height, monstrous, fearsome, but beckoning him forward. Their silhouettes met, claws digging into pelts, teeth ripping flesh - in an erratic dance beneath the October moon. Together they swayed, growling and thundering through the forest, licking each other’s wounds and pulsing with shared bloodlust. Samhain had brought them together, and they would return, year after year, to repeat their dance of violence. First together, forms entwined in rough, passionate tearing - and then on to the hunt, stalking the forest for a victim. The second spilling of blood would be from their feast, splayed out before them in a beautiful cacophony of red. And once they had sated their hunger, once the two creatures had shared the will of October, they would depart - red forms disappearing into the darkness, as the sun rose. The next day, Klaus and Vivian - the second beast - would fall into slumber once again. Their thoughts and desires would disappear to the quiet prison of their minds, and they would return to their Clanmates. Deep within their bodies, their second selves would slumber, waiting for October to beckon them forward once again. And bring them together, to dance beneath the Halloween moon, carnal forms free at last.
