Biography
Coffin Nail
This story happened long ago, in this very lair. The story was told to me by my grandmother and now I tell it to you, so you'll be safe!
Uaithne and Aria, back when they were still hatchlings, often visited one another's nest. Their parents were busy dragons and let the children keep each other occupied. One night (dragon one) spent the night with (dragon two) and they decided to tell secrets. "Did you know," asked Uaithne "that Nekomata have 9 lives?" "I don't believe that. How could it be true?" answered Aria as they both laughed. "Well did you know that my father found a dagger that is made from a coffin nail?" |

"No, he never did!" squealed Uaithne, because they were a very young dragon. Talking about coffins was almost too scary, but not quite. "It's real," insisted Aria, "he found it in the coliseum." Both dragons shivered to think of it. "If you stick it into the earth above a grave, the dead will reach out and pull you down with them." "You are making that up", stated Uaithne, crossing their arms, "there is no such dagger." "I'll get it and show you," answered Aria and they snuck into their father's collection of loot and brought out a short iron knife. There were hammer marks on the blade and the handle was made of bone. "There is even a burial ground nearby in the Shrieking Wilds," whispered Aria, "But no one would ever do it." "I will" said Uaithne, "just to prove it's not true." And before they could stop them, the little dragon had flown out into the dark. |

Aria waited for 10 minutes, then 15, then almost an hour, and they became more and more frightened every minute. Finally they went to their parents' cave and woke them up. "Something awful has happened to Uaithne" they cried. The father dragon went out looking for Uaithne. Sure enough they had made it to the burial ground. They were lying across an old grave. The father turned the body over and saw that Uaithne's scales had turned completely white. There was the dagger stuck into the soil, but by mistake the hatchling had caught the blade on the corner of their own nightshirt. As they had turned to run back to the nest, they must have felt the tug and died from terror. The grave had reached for them after all. |
