 Kariire closes his eyes. Grass rustles with usual sough and nauseating, sweet smell of rotten fruit hovers all over the place. He inhales, remembering how once his only concern was throwing terrific festivals at the time of harvest, with feasts and reveling, music and contests. But not anymore. He still stays where he always stayed, presiding over this remotely small grove at the Starwood Strand, place where soil was once fine and fertile. Kariire closely watched over all the flowers, trees and any kind of fauna secluded within this habitat, he used to be outgoing and joyous, caring for his land and protecting it as if his life depended on it. But as a huge questionable group of Pearlcatchers settled down nearby, things changed: they were draining fruitful soil and recycling its gifts, selfishly taking and never offering anything in return. Kariire thought he would be able to replenish the grove with his own energy, not even considering negotiating or fighting those barbaric intruders - he knew he could fix it whatever happens, but the fields were dying, and reviving them was not in his power anymore. He gave up, overflowing with guilt and boiling with rage, thus pushing his precious land to blight. Kariire was angry only at himself for not being strong enough, for not stopping them sooner, for not being able to make Nature listen. But as it didn't, Plague did. His domain become infestated with all kinds of creepers, weeds, insects and fungi, providing them home. No dragon would come or fly near this dead grove anymore, and Kariire felt strangely at peace with himself - no one would dare to disturb this land anymore.
