"You know, most wonder why you two left the Sunbeam Ruins behind you." Gryff flicked an ear in displeasure at the unwanted commentary. His brother lashed his tail, smacking Gryff in the side, which he ignored. He turned to face the speaker, a brown scaled Obelisk was calmly looking upon them with their green wings folded neatly by their side. Their shockingly swirling nature green eyes gazed into his red ones. "I assume they ask similar about you?" Gryff questioned, tilting his head in question, and he could feel his brother still. The Obelisk smiled, but it didn't reach their eyes. "Oh yes. Quite often they ask when I'll return to the land of Gladekeeper." Gryff made no move as they sat down, watching as their shiny scales seemed to sparkle somehow darkly in the sunlight. "They never seem fond when I ask why I'd go back." Brian relaxed at his side, curling his furry tail around his foretalons. Gryff flicked his tail softly over his brother's head, calming down himself. Leaving only the intrigue of who this Obelisk really was. "I assume you have your reasonings for staying then?" Gryff asked, the question feeling awkward in his own beak. Brian covered his beak with his talons, clearly holding back a laugh, and Gryff cringed at his own lack of tact. "Probably more similar to your own than you'd like to imagine, plaguling." The Obelisk didn't seem shocked at this, but both Gryffons jumped up in alarm, fur and feathers bristling. "Relax you two, I'm not here to spread secrets around." The Obelisk was still as calm as ever, and slowly, as they remained still, Brian spoke up, his beak snapping shut with an audible clack at every word. A clear threat. "Then what are you here for?" "Well," the Obelisk began. "I did say we were more similar than you'd probably like, didn't I?" They awaited a response, but Gryff was still trying his hardest to avoid his panic showing in the form of shaking limbs. "Though I must admit, I'm a bit jealous of the form you took. I wouldn't wish my fate on anyone, but at least you can have company." "What?" Even Brian seemed shocked by this sudden turn of events, There weren't any details, yet his mine raced, trying to picture a Beastclan species that wasn't capable of movement or speech or other communication methods, and that list was already very limited - limited to a whopping 0. "Well, I think I saw you two from the corner of my eye. But I'm sure you'll remember the news of the statue that went missing a few months back." Gryff nodded, speechless. The statue had been a huge story, spreading further and making the High King and High Queen make a public statement on the situation. The old statue from before the Kingdom had been founded, before Flamecaller herself helped aid in the Rebellion's fall, one that had been kept safe through generations and had held a special place within the old Castles before being sent off to the museum, where during a night of matinence, had disappeared. It had caused a bandit to be captured, and they'd been upset at the fact nobody was willing to buy it from them. "So, I think you've got an idea what I mean. And I'm not here to talk more about it. I'm here to simply give you an offer. I know someone who can get you back to your dragonic self. He's helped me before, studied for ages to figure it out. If you're interested, ask for Apple at the museum." Gryff couldn't help the hope that had blossomed in his feathered chest, nor could he stop the anger and resentment at having the option to become his original self again. So he settled for a joke. "You finally got out of that dusty place and decided to go back?" "Yeah. I tried going back. Tried leaving. But it wasn't the same. Though I would never really miss the time I wasn't really there, I knew it wasn't for me anymore. I was apart of the Magmablood Rebellion, sort of. Times were different. I was different. Nobody I knew was alive anymore. It was too much, and I left." Apple didn't seem willing to talk more about it, shifting their claws and glancing around uncomfortably. " | _ |
