Barnabas joined Hephormet (The Clan) as a hatchling found by Pendergrass . Pendergrass had found the Imperial outside of Elysian's quarters, defending himself from some of the BeastClans. Through his ability with his facet eyes Pendergrass was able to avoid incoming attacks and grab the Imperial to safety. Barnabas examined Pendergrass in case he also planned to attack but the Skydancer shook his head before taking him to Elysian (The Lair).

When Pendergrass brought him to the founders, Adorinda felt amazed at the sight of the Imperial. She showed concern over having another Imperial join Hephormet as she remembered one of Maimoona's earlier reservations regarded TwilightCloud's concern over the growing number of Imperials in Elysian. He warned that it was not wise for there to be many Imperials as they might form an Emperor dragon in the future. Erskine was against this but something about the hatchling told him to let them stay in Elysian. Erskine agreed to let Barnabas stay but that they might have to start making individual quarters when it came to keeping the Imperials in check.

Barnabas had stayed and grown that Pendergrass had been taken aback by the growing changes his body underwent. Barnabas was curious over why Pendergrass appeared lost sometimes in Elysian until he learned that he had been recently recruited at the time. "I'm still fairly new to the place (Elysian) and I've heard it's been refurnished several times." Barnabas would follow Pendergrass around prior to his change in helping Runemarker out with his digging excursions. It helped xem learn about some of the patterns in Elysian although xe would not delve deeper into the history of Elysian.

One of xir queries to Maimoona involved Dartred. Xe felt that there was something about him that was suspicious. It surprised gem to learn that Dartred is one of the oldest members in Hephormet. Barnabas does not suspect foul play or that Dartred steals anything from the vault, but there is something about him that does not resonate well within Hephormet.
