Biography

Failures with Potential

Fade and Drift's children are encouraged from a young age to attempt the Necromancer Trials. Some of their children succeed and become fully fledged Necromancers in their own right. Others fail to some extent, becoming Necroservi. A rare few fail in a unique way, like this child here.

This child was left to their own devices during their trials, and someone interfered in an unanticipated way. A little shard of Shade was introduced, hungry for magic, by a Lich who believed his actions just. This little shard of Shade would devour the child's magics, both the innate Crow ancestry and the newly awakening Necromancer magics the child sought to attain.

The child's magic sufficiently drained, they would fall unconscious. Only for the Lich to creep from his hiding place, steal back the little shard of Shade, and spirit the child back to his home within the Shrieking Wilds. Deep in Nature territory, the Lich nurtures the child back to health, and Nature magic flows forth to replace the child's depleted magic.

Now lacking the abilities of a Crow, and having failed to attain the rank of Necromancer, the child can feel the faint tug of both, while the invasive Nature magic makes its presence known in the green streaks across their brown body, offering strange shifting camouflage. With effort, perhaps the child could once again attain a connection back to their Crow heritage... or reach out to become a servant to a successful Necromancer, and perhaps at the very least attain the rank of Necroservus.

Or perhaps they will do neither and accept their new outsider status.

Who is to say?
This dragon could become part of the Effluvial Crow subspecies, if given Runes or Peacock. (Peacock, if you want it to make more sense lore-wise), or Necromancer subspecies if given Iridescent, Leopard, or Ripple.

I would recommend giving the dragon Dark Sclera or Swirl eyes, to reflect it's encounter with the Shade.
