★ ABOUT Angry, hurt, blunt, unforgiving, decisive, forgetful, cold but caring toward weaker beings, quiet, always thinking, always doubting, prideful, cloudy headed, distant, curt, disappointed easily, lost. Ask Haligan the weather. You will be met with silence. 3 seconds of utterly deafening silence. Then with crash of thunder her voice will ring, "I can't see it." It's not a lie. It's not the truth. No relationships built, Haligan walks alone, her favourite nickname gone unheard. Her heart can't melt at a soft nickname that isn't spoken, after all, but she craves none of it for the unnecessary trouble it brings. Studious, she is the witch of the potions. She forgets people and hears the voices of plants being cured and boiled into tincture. She loves them more than another dragon, all of whom have hated her anyway. |

Haligan was born with deformed wings. She was raised, and loved, by her father. But when someone is different for a very long time, ridiculed without an end and often believed broken, even love of the firmest can't soften the damage. Haligan grew into adulthood enraged and disgruntled. Even when she could hide them, pain filled her back and her stride. Magic study called to her, and she learned many great things, but especially potions and herbalism. One night, while searching for cattail reeds, a meteor shower brought down stars to the marshland. Entranced by their glow, she felt compelled to shove one in her mouth. Like tasting the sky, she thought it would bring her closer to the raw magical power of the universe. In a sense, it had. A burning in her back began, as her pointed wing-like maladies began to glow. Fiery bright feathers grew from her bones, filling the space where her natural wings should have been. Her eyes burned as she cried, fire spitting out of her sockets. The sunlight-bright light of the star disappeared as it slid down her throat, and despite being in the fall again, there was a soft, warm light around her. She felt complete finally. She felt the weight of wings at her back. She tested them, stretching them slowly. With a light gallop, she lifted off the ground in a giggle-filled hover. She flapped with power, compressed them to rest, even gesticulated with them in the quiet dark. Her eyes were like two wide candles lit, flame alive so long as her eyes remained open. She was so happy. Returning to the tiny wooden village in which she had been raised, however, was far less joyful. Instead of seeing her as whole and alive in her own body, they saw her as a wild horror. Fake wings of light? Eyes glowing in eternal flame? Monstrous, as far as the village was concerned. The teasing and misunderstanding she constantly observed warped to fear and avoidance. Children ran from her. Her own teacher of the herbal way shooed her for fear of burning down the hut where all the dried, grassy potion ingredients were kept. She fled. The bigger city fancied her wings and eyes, thought her a rarity and quite interesting. But the damage was done. She could never hate her gift from the stars... but she would never believe anyone could appreciate or love her for it. Since then, she has been at the city potion shoppe, embittered. |
