Biography
The trap door slides open as soon as you utter the word, "Familiar," forcing you back. The disgusting smell grows more intense as a cloud of it bursts from the dark hole before you. Ew… did you really have to go down there? You let out a resigned sigh as you step forward again. You weren’t getting out of this house if you didn’t get to the bottom of all of this. Slowly, you descend the creaky wooden stairs, covering your nose as best you can to block out the smell. As you travel further down you notice a dim light flickering from somewhere deep in the cavernous space below. When you reach the bottom of the stairs, you immediately head towards the flickering bulb, like some sort of moth to a flame. Beneath the weak light you find a grouping of dilapidated wooden troughs, starting to rot away from the humidity of the basement. What in all of Sornieth is this? You wonder to yourself. Inside the troughs, rows upon rows of strange red mushrooms with greenish growths that looked almost like eyes emerge from the soil and writhe with malicious intent. Ew, you think again as one of the mushrooms seems to blink at you. You walk by them, trying to ignore the repulsive-looking ‘shrooms and glance around the rest of the basement room. It was simultaneously dusty and damp down here, brick walls dripping with some sort of glistening fluid. As far as other things down here, there truly isn't much - a few gardening tools, empty pots, and plenty of brownish red mold are the only things that even stand out in the slightest. Suddenly a noise sounds out behind you. You whirl around just in time to see a slimy looking dragon with swirled, dazed out eyes crawling out from one of the wooden troughs. “What are you doing?” the Puppet asks, talking surprisingly clearly for one of Alaric’s creations. You gawk at the Puppet as it crawls the rest of the way out of the trough and settles back on its haunches. “What?” it asks, “Capricat got your tongue?” The Puppet seems to be teasing you, but you need to ask it what in the name of the Gods is going on down here... and in the whole house for that matter! You open your mouth to begin asking questions, but the Puppet cuts you off with a laugh. “Too slow, Rot-for-Brains.” The Puppet reaches back with its paw, purple eyes locked onto yours, and smacks one of the mushrooms. A plume of spores bursts into the air, clouding your vision. You cover your face again, screwing your eyes shut as you try to prevent yourself from breathing in any of the spores. When the cloud settles, the Puppet is - almost predictably - gone. You groan in frustration, feeling as though your lead has slipped away when suddenly you notice something taking shape on one of the walls nearest to the mushroom troughs. It seems like some of the spores are settling into the sticky fluid on the wall… and forming some sort of grid-like picture. You wonder what you’re supposed to do with that when a loud scratching sound causes you to whirl around again. Just behind you, a torn and wet scrap of paper is laying on the floor filled with scribbled text that looks strangely familiar… Let’s see what it says. |
